Angels of Opteria (The Creator's Egg, #1)

Angels of Opteria

Book 1 in the Series: The Creator’s Egg. The series is an epic fantasy full of quests, journeys, mystery, intrigue, adventure, war and excitement. The series is set in Opteria, a planet where birds (avians) evolved to a position of dominance in place of the mammals on Earth. These avians are bipedal and have arms with well-developed hands as well as wings. They have full powers of speech and are fully as intelligent as humans. They are indeed, the angels of Opteria.

In this first book of the series, Falco - leader of the Fallons - begins to experience dreams of alien intervention in his world. At the same time, he is faced with the biggest threat in his civilization’s history. No fewer than four armies are massing at the periphery of the central continents of the world of Opteria – home to the allied avian races.

His dreams are disturbing and too real to be mere fictions of his imagination. In his attempts to understand their portent, he turns to the body of Myth and Prophecy that has become fundamental to the beliefs and values of his people. He finds that central to these Myths and Prophecies are the recurring themes of an alien savior and the power of the Creator’s Egg – an ancient artefact imbued with magical capabilities that have the power to harness natural forces and the Supernatural in defense of the races of Opteria. Supporting the Egg are two other Talismans – The Swords of Freedom that must be wielded by a master of skills long lost to the world of Opteria and the Orb of Truth that provides insights, visions and abilities to attack and defend against oppressors. Unfortunately, these Talismans were lost at the end of the Avian Wars of antiquity – a conflict that nearly destroyed Opteria.

In the beginning, Falco begins to understand the nature and meaning of ancient prophecy that predicts the coming of the alien and, in association with the Talismans, his key role in the survival of the allied races. In spite of scorn and derision from many sides, Falco persists with his beliefs and mounts a quest for the long-lost Strigs. These avians were the original custodians of the Talismans and are expected to throw further light on the whereabouts of the artefacts and the meanings of the prophecies. After a difficult search the Strigs are located and enlisted to the allied cause. They help to clarify the legends and put an approximate time of year on the prophetic arrival of the alien savior. Falco waits expectantly for the hero’s appearance and mounts regular patrols in the area where he is expected. To complicate matters the allies suffer invasion to the four major central continents and are considerably outnumbered everywhere. They are unable to stem the enemy and retreat to underground hideaways. Matters get worse and soon the allies are losing on all fronts.

Finally the alien stranger arrives and meets with Falco and one of his patrols. He is whisked to a place of safety where he learns Fallon, while his hosts assimilate English. He is then brought up to date with all that’s happening. With the stranger’s help, several previously murky prophecies are understood and the decision is made to mount a quest in search for the Swords of Truth. For this, contact is required with the Struthions, who were the last known protectors of the fabled weapons. A team is formed to undertake the quest and, dodging enemies all the way, the group travels far and wide through Opteria following clues and leads. Eventually they find the ‘Old Ones’, an ancient pair of Struthions - the last remaining exponents of the almost mythical role of their forebears - the wanderers and historians of Opteria. Unfortunately, the ‘Old Ones’ have been searching for the Swords for most of their lives and have found nothing.
