About the Author

Patrice L. Spath, MA, RHIT, is a health information management professional based in Forest Grove, Or-egon. She has broad experience in healthcare quality and patient safety improvement. For more than 35 years, she has presented over 300 educational programs and authored numerous books and journal articles on these topics. In 2020, she received the Distinguished Member Award from the American Health Information Management Association. As an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Spath has taught graduate-level patient safety courses and undergraduate-level quality management courses. She earned a master’s degree in management from American Public University and a bachelor of science degree in management and health information from Marylhurst University. She is a registered health information technician, holds a Lean project leader certification, and serves as consulting editor for the monthly publication Hospital Peer Review.
