Armed or Dangerous: Unpacking the Gun Control Debate in America

The gun debate is a polarizing one in the US, in which both sides have strong proponents arguing about the legitimacy and the benefits to society of their opinion. Each side can claim scientific research and studies to back their claims and data is available to prove their arguments.
Luckily, we live in a democratic country and if the general population generally holds a majority opinion this may eventually be reflected in our laws, but until the American population becomes less divided about the issue, it seems the stalemate for gun control laws will continue.
The debate evokes so many emotions and fears that sometimes people lose their capability of listening to the other argument, digging in dogmatically in their position. Both parties constantly bring the Founding Fathers to mind; yet if they were alive today there is a strong possibility that like the American population, they too would be divided in their opinions about gun control. You be the judge as the debate rages on.
