As in A Mirror
A wealthy and successful author, John Stuart King has everything he could want in life. A chance visit to church with a friend turns his life upside down when the minister exhorts his flock to be kind to the homeless, as Jesus would do.
As luck would have it, John Stuart is about to begin writing his next book . . . about homeless tramps! Taking the minister's sermon to heart, John Stuart resolves to live the life of a tramp so he can better understand how he can help the homeless. But the experience is more challenging than John ever imagined. People, he discovers, are more wary of the homeless than they are willing to lend a hand. In fact, no one is willing to offer him help . . . until he meets the Elliott family. They take him in, give him a comfortable bed, a warm meal and a job taking care of their horses. But it isn't long before John Stuart becomes embroiled in their lives in various ways. And he's especially intrigued by the eldest Elliott daughter, Hildreth, whose passion for honesty and doing the right thing earns her the nickname of Truth. John Stuart wants to tell Hildreth the truth--that he's not a tramp, after all--but will she ever be able to forgive his deception?
This edition includes reading group discussion questions, a biography of the author and an introduction to Isabella Alden's books by Christian author Jenny Berlin.
