CHAPTER 1
Meeting J
Being a holistic health practitioner and Lightworker for over fifteen years has been unbelievably rewarding; the best part is that I still love what I do. A holistic health practitioner incorporates natural, spiritual, and hands-on techniques to help inspire healing and general wellness in others. A Lightworker will typically work with divine beings, such as guides, angels, and ascended healers. Working in tandem or complementing each other, we all have the same intention. The purpose of this type of work is always healing and the highest good for all. Basically, I have studied, practiced, and devoted myself and my entire career to learning holistic techniques that help others heal.
By this point in my career, I have worked with all kinds of people, but every client is different and every day is different. Unique obstacles are presented, making every day interesting. But no matter what my day is like or what type of service my clients need, I am thrilled to help them along their healing journeys. I have always found this to be most rewarding.
Although I have studied many holistic, therapeutic, and Eastern philosophies, my favorite has always been Reiki. Reiki is a Japanese style of energy work focused on healing the mind, body, and soul, as are most energy modalities. I consider myself a Lightworker, which means I use many holistic methods, techniques, and philosophies to assist my clients through their unique healing. Each client and healing session has served as my teacher. Over the years, I have been humbled and honored by what I have learned. I became a Reiki master quite some time ago, but I'm always adding to my "toolbox" of knowledge and techniques whenever possible.
I prefer to work with other divine beings, such as spirit guides, angels, and ascended spiritual masters. Together, we inspire or bring about change in a positive, supportive manner. As I intuitively listen to others, I can sense the subtle changes in their energy fields. We all do this as a form of communication; we just don't think of it in these terms. As humans, we are mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual beings. We cannot separate our parts. When one part of us is in dis-ease (e.g., our emotional state), this stress can eventually cause physical problems, such as disease. When every part of us is balanced, we are healthy and in a state of homeostasis. Homeostasis allows our body to function at a high rate, creating our own chi or life force.
Everything is energy and has an electromagnetic field. An electromagnetic field can be measured and will change depending on the homeostasis of the person. Energy can be felt, and sometimes even seen, as in an aura around a person. Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only change form. So when a body is out of balance, we feel off-center and not grounded or just not ourselves. These subtle shifts in a person's aura can communicate a great deal of information, pertinent to their healing.
According to Dr. Robert Lanza (Currently the head of Astellas Global Regenerative Medicine, and Chief Scientific Officer of the Astellas Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine), biocentrism theory teaches that death in the way we know it is a mere illusion created by our consciousness. My guides have provided me with more insight into how and why our energy changes by explaining it as such: Modern science tells us that the human organism is not just a physical structure made of molecules, but is composed of energy fields. An energy field can be defined as a condition in space that has the potential of producing a force. With every emotion, experience, thought, and action, we constantly change our energy fields. In the human brain, glands release chemicals called hormones. With every thought, we release these chemicals, and they enter each cell in the body, creating a biochemical reaction. This reaction changes the vibration of the atom inside the cell. If the thought is positive, the chemicals released will speed up the vibration within the atom. The body interprets this reaction as emotion. Our thoughts affect our energy fields, which in turn affect our bodies and our health. Our thoughts, actions, and belief systems affect and help create our reality, for better or for worse. Once we realize this, we instantly have the power to change the things we don't like and to enhance the things we do.
As I explained above, your thoughts can either help or hurt you. Your health is almost always within your control, as are most things in life. This means we must first take responsibility for our state of dis-ease before we can transition into healing. Life is about having experiences and learning things such as love, compassion, and joy. This is what enables us to grow and evolve as individuals. Yet we can't do any of these things without an open mind. To have an open mind means we're also willing to accept change. It takes internal change to increase our sensitivity so that we can learn the difference between internal noise and subtle incoming information that can only be perceived by silencing the mind. Change is the only constant. To advance our way of thinking is to evolve ourselves and the future of all humanity.
Last year, I started to notice some changes of my own. My intuitive abilities became stronger, and my focus and sense of becoming became clearer and more developed than ever. This is probably expected in any line of work after significant time has passed, but this seemed different. In the last few years, while doing Reiki sessions, I would sometimes see a passed loved one in my mind's eye, standing next to the client I was working with. I know that's a loaded statement, so let me explain.
When I do energy work, I often have images play out in my mind. These images seem like memories or visions, but there are people and things I see but don't recognize, and sometimes these images make no sense to me — but they make perfect sense to my client. These visions are usually relevant to the client's healing.
To me, communicating with energy is like speaking a different language: sometimes gestures, symbols, and signs are more effective than words. And because I'm already a visual learner, my mind eventually fills in the blanks of this language with images. It has taken me years to understand how this all works. But it's now a normal part of my workday. So when I say that I see things with my mind's eye, I mean that I can see things that may have happened, will happen, or somehow pertain to my clients and their healing.
Now let me explain what I mean when I say I have been seeing passed loved ones during sessions. Although it may seem strange to see a passed loved one standing in the room with my client, this too is a normal day for me. This kind of thing has happened from time to time for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I would feel things like a positive vibe in a house or a negative vibe from a person, even if the house was empty or the person seemed sweet. I could pick up on subtle energy that enabled me to sense things that were otherwise hidden.
Most people who are empaths can do this. An empath is a person who is more open and sensitive than other people to the environment emotionally, mentally and even physically. But I also had other experiences, like dreams that came true and visions of experiences before they happened. Eventually, I saw other things as a child, too, like passed loved ones, animals, and lights. For a long time, I thought this was all normal. I also have open-minded parents who never told me this was wrong or bad. This allowed me to accept and explore my ability further. As I grew and matured, so did my abilities. As I practiced and had moments of validation, I got better and better at sensing things psychically.
I strongly believe that everyone is capable of these abilities in some fashion. We are energetic beings capable of a multitude of things, and developing these abilities is no different. As a society, we typically don't nurture these abilities; therefore, they are often avoided, neglected, and smothered. We live in a state of constant noise. Our lives are fast-paced, and technology is at our fingertips. We wake up to noise and go to sleep with it. We have trouble sitting in silence and even avoid it. Overstimulation creates a lack of self-awareness and a lack of understanding. This creates frustration, impatience, or negativity for things we don't understand.
Unfortunately, being fearful of the things we don't understand is a natural human response, partially due to our survival instincts. Fear can keep us safe, but to not educate ourselves and to remain ignorant or fearful does not serve us or humanity. However misunderstood, energy work or mediumship is a natural and powerful healing tool. It is up to us to be open-minded enough to break the barriers of fear and start using these abilities to help ourselves and others heal.
I know this may all seem crazy with my mind's eye and seeing passed loved ones, but there are many things in our universe we can't yet explain and don't actually understand. We are constantly learning more about our own bodies, physics, and the universe. Things we once thought were impossible are becoming more of a reality with each discovery and technological advancement. For example, I have a watch that talks to me and has GPS, my emails, my text messages, and my calendar. And I can even make phone calls with it. Now that's crazy! In the last few years, we have made leaps in physics, learning more about our universe and how it really works.
I have come to believe our passed loved ones can in fact communicate with us, if we can find the right frequency or vibration. We are energy, and every cell in our body vibrates at a unique rate. We know that there are other colors, tones, and pitches that we can't see or hear with our simple human senses, but still they exist. Even modern scientists have found that plants actually communicate through sounds and electrical impulses; we just can't hear these particular pitches unless they are converted to ones within our hearing abilities. We know that energy cannot be destroyed, but only changes form.
So if we are energy, why couldn't we adjust our frequency to sense our passed loved ones and their frequencies? Maybe it isn't so far-fetched. Maybe communicating with our passed loved ones is possible. Maybe they aren't gone at all, they've just changed form.
I was definitely guided toward the work I do now. It is no mistake that helping others heal is what I enjoy most. I have added a few things to my holistic healing sessions, customizing them to my strengths as a healer. Once I began my career, I quickly put my intuitive skills to work, finding illnesses and imbalances that people had struggled with for years. Over time, I began to trust myself and create a healing platform that fit my strengths so I could better serve my clients. I also felt guided to reduce many types of distractions in my life. For example, I reduced or cut things out of my diet, started meditating regularly, and surrounded myself with loving, supportive people. This was all vital for my development as a Lightworker and allowed me to be at my best and healthiest. Although I felt confident in my skills, I was driven to develop my abilities further whenever possible.
So when I recently reconnected with an old friend who was a medium, I felt it was necessary to keep my hunger for growth alive. I asked her if she would consider working with me to help build my skills as a medium. I explained that I had started to see passed loved ones during sessions more and more. I felt that they were there in support of the healing process, but I also began seeing them so often that I wondered if there was more for me to understand. They seemed to want to communicate, but I just couldn't make out what they were saying. I felt that what they had to say must be important and necessary for my clients' healing, but their voices were muffled, and when they appeared, they looked like they were standing in heavy fog. It was frustrating knowing they had messages for their loved ones and that I wasn't able to communicate well enough to get their message across.
After explaining this to my friend, who is a psychic medium, she agreed to help me develop my skills further to help my clients heal on a whole new level. We began to meet a few times a month, and we started with the basics of meditation and quieting the mind. Although I meditated regularly, this was for a new purpose. Meditation is the key to all enlightenment and awakening, so this was a perfect place for us to start.
Eventually, I built an even stronger connection to my guides, who often help me communicate with passed loved ones now. I had worked very closely with my guides over the years, but again, I would be using them in a different way. I needed to be able to work with my guides to eventually communicate with passed loved ones. I used meditation techniques and exercises to strengthen our connection. I would ask for them to give me signs, feelings or intensify thigs at times. This helped me really know when they were working or talking to me, or if it was just my own thoughts.
After doing this for several months, we then began to work with actual passed loved ones. I know in explaining our process that this may seem quite simple. Although I believe everyone is capable of doing this, it does take time to develop your skills. Don't forget: I had been working with guides and meditating for my entire professional career — and, with some aspects, for my entire life. This was just in a different format. With the help of my friend, this was a unique crash course. I felt quite good about our progress, but I hadn't used it on my own clients yet, but I was eager to try.
On one particularly busy day, I noticed that an old friend, Jenny was on my schedule at the end of my day. I was excited and looking forward to catching up. When she arrived, we chatted a bit, and she expressed that she was interested in Reiki. I had never done Reiki for her before, and she had a few questions, so I explained what Reiki is and how it works. I explained to Jenny that Reiki is a Japanese style of energy healing, and that the word Reiki means "universal energy." I let her know that I would start us off with a quick, guided meditation to help both of us focus and relax. I let her know that as I moved on to the next step, I would remain quiet while doing Reiki for her but that I would take notes as I worked. I encouraged her to continue meditating or simply relaxing during her Reiki session, and finally, after the session was over, I would go over my notes and any information with her.
Jenny seemed eager to get started, so we began with our guided meditation. She continued meditating as I began the Reiki session. I asked for my guides and angels to join us for our healing session. I went silent during the rest of the meditation. With my hands over her body, I began checking each of Jenny's chakras, scanning her energetic body for imbalances or blockages.
Chakras are energy centers of the body. For me it's as if these areas are louder than the rest of the body, and a good place for me to pick up on energetic changes throughout the body. I placed my hands above the first of the seven main chakras, but before I could do any real chakra balancing, I saw a man in my mind's eye standing on the other side of the table. He had come into our session and stood there waiting for me to acknowledge him.
I found it strange because I hadn't even begun the Reiki session with Jenny yet, and this man seemed very present and eager to communicate. He was very clear in my mind: He had on a blue shirt and sunglasses and had a short haircut. He seemed like he was waiting for me to communicate with him. Not really sure how to proceed, I decided to go along with my usual opening chakra scans and wait to engage him later in the session. So I continued as usual by checking her chakras.
All of a sudden, I heard the man say to me, "That's not necessary. This session is for me to communicate with you."
Without a thought, I replied, "I'm here for Jenny and her healing first. Once I work with her energy, then I can communicate with you."
He replied, "She will be okay with it. I'm here for you."
