CHAPTER 1

Petal Blanket & Teddy Bear Buddy

Blanket: 34 inches wide x 35 inches long

Bear: 9½ inches tall


Materials

• Caron Simply Baby medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (3½ oz/165 yds/100g per skein):

3 skeins #404009 tiny sprite

2 skeins each #404007 my princess, #404005 my sunshine and #404003 baby pink

• Medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn:

3 yds each white and black

• Sizes I/9/5.5mm crochet hook for Blanket and F/5/3.75mm crochet hook for Bear Buddy or sizes needed to obtain gauge

• Stitch marker

• Tapestry needle

• Polyester fiberfill


Gauge

Working in Blanket pattern: 15 sts = 4 inches; 6 pattern rows = 4 inches

Bear Buddy: Rnds 1–3 = 1¼ inches

Take time to check gauge.


Pattern Notes

Weave in ends as work progresses.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

Teddy Bear Buddy pieces are made in a spiral with no joins at ends of rounds. Place a marker in last stitch of round and move up to next round after last stitch has been worked.


Special Stitches

7-double crochet cluster (7-dc cl): [Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up lp] 7 times, yo, draw through 8 lps on hook.

Increase (inc): Work 2 sc in next st.

Decrease (dec): Insert hook in next st, yo, pull up lp, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through all sts on hook.

Single crochet 3 together (sc3tog): Insert hook in front lp only of each of next 2 sts, insert hook in both lps of next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through all strands on hook, yo, draw through both lps on hook.


Color Stripe Sequence

Work all odd-numbered rows in tiny sprite.

Work 1 even-numbered row in each contrasting color and cycle through sequence as follows: my princess, my sunshine, baby pink.


Blanket

Row 1 (RS): With tiny sprite, ch 112, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, *sk 3 chs, sc in next ch, sk 3 chs**, 7 dc in next ch, rep from * across to last st, ending at **, 4 dc in last ch, turn. Fasten off.

Row 2: With next color(see Color Stripe Sequence), (joinsee Pattern Notes, ch 1, sc) in first st, *ch 2, 7-dc cl(see Special Stitches) in next 7 sts, ch 4, sc in next st, rep from * across, turn. Fasten off.

Row 3: With tiny sprite, (join, ch 3, 3 dc) in first st, *sk ch sp, sc in next 7-dc cl, sk ch sp**, 7 dc in next sc, rep from * across to last st, ending at **, 4 dc in last sc, turn. Fasten off.

Row 4: With next color, (join, ch 1, sc) in first st, *ch 2, 7dc cl in next 7 sts, ch 4, sc in next st, rep from * across, turn. Fasten off.

Rows 5–58: [Rep rows 3 and 4 alternately] 27 times.


Edging

Rnd 1: With RS facing, rotate work to begin in corner at beg of first row and work across side, with tiny sprite (join, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc) in corner st, then work as follows:

A. *ch 3, sc in end of next even row, rep from * across to corner, work (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner st;

B. *ch 3, sc in next ch sp, rep from * across to next corner, work (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner st.

Rep steps A and B once, ending with join in first sc.

Rnd 2: (Sl st, ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner ch sp, *[(ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch sp] across to corner**, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner ch sp, rep from * around, ending final rep at **, ch 1, join in top of first ch-3. Fasten off.


Teddy Bear Buddy

Leg

Make 1 each tiny sprite & my sunshine.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place marker in last st(see Pattern Notes).(6 sc)

Rnd 2: Inc(see Special Stitches) in each st around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, inc in next st, rep from * around. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: *Sc in each of next 2 sts, inc in next st, rep from * around. (24 sc)

Rnds 5–15: Sc in each st around. Fasten off.

Sew Legs tog using 2 sts from each Leg, leaving 22 sts on each available for Torso.


Torso

Rnd 1: With my princess, join in first st next to Leg seam, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each of next 18 sts, dec(see Special Stitches) in next 2 sts, sc in each of next 4 sts, dec in next 2 sts, sc around. (42 sts)

Rnd 2: Sc in each of next 3 sts, [inc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts] 3 times, sc in each of next 10 sts, [inc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts] twice, inc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts. (48 sts)

Rnds 3–6: Sc in each st around.

Rnd 7: *Sc in each of next 6 sts, dec in next 2 sts, rep from * around. (42 sts)

Rnds 8–10: Sc in each st around.

Rnd 11: *Sc in each of next 5 sts, dec in next 2 sts, rep from * around. (36 sts)

Rnds 12–17: Sc in each st around.

Arm

Make 1 each in tiny sprite & my sunshine.

Rnds 1–3: Work rnds 1–3 of Head. (18 sts)

Rnds 4–6: Sc in each st around.

Rnd 7: *Sc in next st, dec in next 2 sts, rep from * around. (12 sts)

Rnds 8–22: Sc in each st around. After last st of rnd 22, join in next st. Fasten off, leaving end for sewing.


Muzzle

Rnds 1–4: With my sunshine, work rnds 1–4 of Head.

Rnd 5: [Sc in each of the next 9 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 3 sts] twice, join in next st. Fasten off, leaving end for sewing.


Nose

Rnd 1: With my princess, ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (5 sc)

Rnd 2: Inc in each sc around. (10 sc)

Rnd 3: Sc3tog(see Special Stitches) in next 3 sts. Fasten off, leaving rem sts unworked and long end for sewing.


Ear

Make 2.

Rnds 1–3: With my princess, work rnds 1–3 of Head. (18 sts)

Rnds 4–6: Sc in each st around. After last st of rnd 6, join in next st. Fasten off.


Button

Make 1 each my sunshine, baby pink & tiny sprite.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in first st. Fasten off, leaving end for sewing.


Assembly

Flatten and indent each Ear by weaving starting end in and out of both layers. With long end and working through bottom sts of both layers, sew Ear to Head 3 rnds below top, forming a slight curve.

Sew Nose to Muzzle and Muzzle to Head. With white, backstitch(see illustration) glint on Nose. Using backstitch and with black, embroider mouth, referring to photo for placement.

Using satin stitch(see illustration) and with white and black, embroider eyes, referring to photo for placement. With baby pink and satin stitch, embroider eyelids over eyes, referring to photo for placement.

Sew Buttons to center of Torso.

Stuff bottom of Arms, Legs, Torso and Head. Sew Arm opening closed. Weaving yarn through both layers, flatten upper Arms while attaching to Torso.

Attach Head to Torso.

With 1 strand each my sunshine and my princess held tog, ch 50. Fasten off and weave in ends. Wrap around neck and tie center knot bow tightly.

CHAPTER 2

Soft Circles Blanket & Dog Buddy

Materials

• Caron Simply Soft medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (6 oz/315 yds/170g per skein):

2 skeins each #39709 light country blue, #39702 off-white and #39739 soft green

• Medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn:

3 yds each white and black

• Sizes I/9/5.5mm crochet hook for Blanket and F/5/3.75mm crochet hook for Dog Buddy or sizes needed to obtain gauge

• Stitch marker

• Tapestry needle

• Polyester fiberfill


Gauge

Working in Blanket pattern: 4 staggered circle motifs = 4 inches; 8 pattern rows = 4 inches

Dog Buddy: Rnds 1–3 = 1¼ inches

After base row, rep each stripe color for 2 rows as follows: green, off-white, blue.

Row 1 (WS): With next color(see Color Stripe Sequence), (joinsee Pattern Notes, ch 1, sc) in first dc, sc in next dc, *ch 3, 7-dc cl(see Special Stitches) in next 7 sts, ch 3, sc in each of next 3 dc, rep from * across, ending with ch 3, 4-dc cl(see Special Stitches) in last 4 sts, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, 4 dc in st at base of ch, sk ch sp, *sc in each of next 3 sc, sk ch sp, 7 dc in next cl, sk ch sp, rep from * across, ending with sc in each of last 2 sts, turn. Fasten off.

With blue and RS facing, join in bottom corner opposite fasten off just worked, sc a multiple of 10 sts + 5 evenly sp across side, do not fasten off, rotate work to continue across row 66.

Rnd 2: Work 7 dc in corner st, 1 sc in next st, then work around as follows:

A. *7 dc in next cl, sc in each of next 3 sc; rep from * across, ending with 7 dc in corner st, rotate work to continue;

B. **sc in each of next 3 sts, sk 3 sts, 7 dc in next st, sk 3 sts, rep from ** across to next corner, ending with 7 dc in corner, rotate work;

C. sk ch sp, [??]sc in each of next 3 sts, 7 dc in st opposite 7 dc group from base row, sk ch sp, rep from [??] across, ending with 7 dc in corner, rotate work;

Dog Buddy

Leg

Make 1 each green & off-white.

Work as for Teddy Bear Buddy Leg on page 4.


Torso

With blue, work as for Teddy Bear Buddy Torso on page 4.


Head

With off-white, work as for Teddy Bear Buddy Head on page 4.


Arm

Make 1 each off-white & green.

Work as for Teddy Bear Buddy Arm on page 5.


Muzzle

With green, work as for Teddy Bear Buddy Muzzle on page 5.


Nose

Rnd 1: With blue, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: Inc(see Special Stitches) in each sc around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: Sc3tog(see Special Stitches) in next 3 sts. Fasten off, leaving rem sts unworked and long end for sewing.


Ear

Make 1 each blue & green.

Row 1: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (4 sc)

Rows 2–4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first st, inc in each of next 2 sts, sc in last st, turn. (6 sc)

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Edging row: Ch 1, sc in each row end and st around, join in first ch.


Button

Make 1 each off-white & green.

Work as for Teddy Bear Buddy Button on page 5.


Collar

With green, ch 23, dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off.


Assembly

With long end, sew narrow end of each Ear to Head 3 rnds below top.

Sew Nose to Muzzle and Muzzle to Head. With white and single backstitch(see illustration), sew glint on Nose. Using backstitch, and with black, embroider mouth, referring to photo for placement.

Using satin stitch(see illustration) and with white and black, embroider eyes, referring to photo for placement. With green and satin stitch, embroider eyelids over eyes, referring to photo for placement.

Sew Buttons to center of Torso.

Stuff bottom of Arms, Legs, Torso and Head. Sew Arm opening closed. Weaving yarn through both layers, flatten upper Arms while attaching to Torso.

Attach Head to Torso.

Wrap Collar around neck and sew ends tog.

CHAPTER 3

Soft Ripples Blanket & Piggy Buddy
