Recipes are a way of life for Gwen Jones. Take one single mother, her infant daughter and a business plan for a small town bakery. Combine with an eventful cross-country flight, chance encounter with her college crush and a dash of motion sickness. Stir in a few nuts, or family members, and large quantities of chocolate. Will this recipe be an oven oops, or as delicious as her alma maters newest coach?

Having survived an attack in Afghanistan that cost him a leg and a wife, Kyle Collins developed a strategy to find meaning in life. He may be an assistant basketball coach but he refuses to sit on the sidelines. When he runs into the woman whose lips are as unforgettable as her brownies, Kyle decides to spice up Gwens recipes.

When a secret ingredient is thrown into the mix, can their recipe for a happily-ever-after rise to the occasion, or will it end up a hot mess?

Right from the beginning of the story you’re feeling sorry for Gwen Jones. The poor young lady is traveling with her infant daughter via airplane and things don’t go so smoothly. Until our hero, Kyle Collins, shows up to help our damsel in distress. You immediately fall in love with Kyle because he isn’t afraid of Gwen’s six-month-old baby, Chloe. Some men just don’t know what to do with a baby. Gwen and Kyle have a past that didn’t involve a relationship, but feelings were there and still linger. Both are returning home to start anew. Kyle is a wounded vet with a new career, with an opportunity to advance. Gwen opens a bakery wanting to give her daughter the best life possible. Revealing truths and being honest with each other comes with relief and consequences as these two grow to become a couple. Chloe’s father locates Gwen and stays in town for a while putting worry and stress on Gwen. Her ex-boyfriend wasn’t there for her or Chloe when Gwen needed him most. The question was what did he want and why was he there now? Kyle doesn’t back away from Gwen and their relationship with the ex in town. It makes him fight harder for the woman and child he wants to be a part of his life. This story is riddled with humor and peppered with surprises. While reading this story, my high school daughter couldn’t talk to me because I was so absorbed by the book. I continued to read while one of my favorite TV shows was on, and that doesn’t happen. You know the saying by a book lover, “Just one more page.” “One more chapter.”

4.5 stars No one likes a crying baby on a plane, and when Kyle Collins, a blast from Gwen’s past,  shows up unexpectedly at the airport and helps her with her screaming daughter, I think she falls a bit in love. I know I did. Kyle is the type of man we all dream of and is a great hero for Gwen and those around him. I love the uniqueness of Kyle having lost his leg and how it impacted his relationship with Gwen. Gwen is a strong heroine, she has to be for her daughter. She isn’t necessarily looking for a new relationship but Kyle comes in under her radar. I really loved the small town feel to this story, it really enhanced their love story. I felt like everyone knew each other and really loved how obsessed her father was about basketball and the way that allowed him to interact with Kyle. There is a interesting twist that adds so drama to the story, it’s well executed. Overall, the story has it all, a small town feel, a unique hero, great chemistry and an adorable baby that ties it all together. I received a copy for the purpose of review. I was not compensated for my review.
