Her first tour in Europe, Tara Bentley, young prima ballerina with a small Seattle dance company, watches her excitement turn to horror when she's haunted by the voice of her deceased dance teacher, Yelena Natilova. She fears she might be going mad until she meets a necromancer who assures her the voice is real. Is he a charlatan? Or, has he the power to guide her through this nightmare as she struggles to hold her career together. Their dash through the great theaters of Europe becomes the performance of a lifetime with death waiting in the wings.

"Ballet Noir" is a mystery, a love story and a look behind the scenes of a NW Ballet Company as its members travel throughout major cities of Europe, performing in some of the greatest theaters and concert halls. The characters seem to come to life, almost dancing off the pages, as Tara, the prima ballerina does her best to figure out who is what, why and how. The landmarks and breath taking scenery add to the suspense and the variety of individuals who make up this novel are colorful, intense, energetic and loving and are beautifully and vividly conveyed through Caroline Miller's skill and prose. This is truly a book for all seasons, but I suggest reading it during the warmer months--after all who can resist Tuscany in the summer?
