Hand lettering artist Latta (Doodle Everything!) provides practice exercises and 20 lettering projects for readers interested in learning brush lettering techniques. Beginning with an overview of brush pens and the characteristics of different inks, the book demonstrates the eight brushstrokes that form all letters, encouraging readers to practice examples on provided lines. But that means there isn't much variety in the provided projects, as all of them follow a similar pattern. After showing several variations of the alphabet, the book has suggestions for ways to embellish the brushstrokes by outlining them with art pens, adding highlights, and altering the angle or alignment of letters. The project designs consist of short phrases decorated with small drawings or simple borders. The author guides readers through the process of creating each one, using preliminary sketches to work out the placement of the words and decorative elements. A full page is supplied to complete each project, and there are traceable versions that readers can use to hone their lettering skills.
