Biographical Sketches of Gen. Pat Cleburne and Gen. T. C. Hindman [Annotated]
"Together with Humorous Anecdotes and Reminiscences of the Late Civil War" (1898) — Charles E. Nash, M.D. provides an intimate tribute to the personal lives of the two famous Arkansas Confederate Generals during the American Civil War: Patrick Ronayne Cleburne (1828-1864) and Thomas Carmichael Hindman (1828-1868). In the backdrop of a small town in 1850's ante-bellum Arkansas (Helena) Dr. Nash gives recollections of his intimate friend and fellow business associate, Pat Cleburne (a native of Ireland who came to America at the age of 24) and of his kinsman by marriage, T. C. Hindman, a Southern statesman and Congressman in Washington, D.C. prior to the war. The service of both men in the Confederate Army is legendary. — The author provides summaries of their military careers as well as their violent deaths: Cleburne's death on the battlefield while leading a charge; Hindman's assassination while tending his aged mother during her illness. Interesting events before, during and after the war, as well as Reconstruction scenes in Arkansas and western Tennessee are included in these 288 pages of "sketches". They are "Dedicated to the Confederate Veterans and their Children".
