Overview

It's 1942 and while the allies are fighting in Asia and Europe, Homicide Detective Jack Winston has been the guy sending murderers to the electric chair. But now the Assistant District Attorney is trying to give him a turn in the hot seat. Jack's only ally is a young woman he dated for a short while before his own police force slapped a pair of bracelets on his wrists. Most women would have read the writing on the wall and moved on, but not Caroline Cromwell. She seems to know something the State of New York doesn't. Like when the "not guilty" verdict is announced, she knows that won't be good enough for Jack. He'll want to find out who tried to give him the juice. As a disciple of Nancy Drew, she plans to be there at his side. But there are powerful people in New York City with their own plans, and if Caroline and Jack aren't careful, they're liable to find out there are worse ways to die than electrocution. Inspired by true tales that happened in and around Manhattan in the forties.

About the Author

Robert and Robin Lawton, a husband and wife mystery writing team who publish under the pen name, Rob Lawton, are launching their new novel, Murder in Black and White. After careers in chemistry and information technology, Robert and Robin decided to use their extensive corporate experience with boardroom intrigue for good, instead of evil, by turning murder into something that was fun again. They started as playwrights, creating entertainment that blended history with humor and mystery. They live on an island off the coast of Maine, where they plot murders most days. Fellow islanders have gotten used to their conversations about the best way to carry a body out of a basement or which poisons would go well with red wine.
