In Lemay’s hip, plucky art, “bookstore babies” are pictured reading, listening during story time, and “playing with the bookstore cat.” Bookstore babies are “adventurous... and love exploring new places... and ideas.” At the shop, they enjoy books about dragons, pirates, and presidents (a child in pink envisions herself in the Oval Office). After a bookstore visit and a café snack, it’s time to head home “to read your new book and have a good night.” A mother is pictured reading to her child in bed, the friendly shop’s lights shining across the street. Final pages invite readers to seek and find particular items in the scenes (“Point to the monkey, the sloth, and the turtle”). A lively love note to bricks-and-mortar bookstores. Ages up to 4.
