Break Open the Ocean
I wish she would remember the sky,
How it went on forever
Like the moment we fell in love.

The air, her eyes, and tousled hair
As warm as our shadow on the ocean.
Rippling waves roaring like the engines.

As a cowboy from the Mohave desert, I have not been to the ocean often,
but I have an idea that we all have an ocean within us.
For all the coral and wondrous thoughts we have swimming near the sun,
there exists in the depths of us a region of secrets,
maybe even monsters.

I composed these poems over the years since college. They chronicle times of doubt, anger, and adoration.
Poetry is a vessel available to all of us. Come climb aboard, our flight is clear for takeoff.
Out there is an oceanic horizon ripe for adventure.
