I won this book at a giveaway and was in no way forced to leave the review I am currently leaving below Rebecca O'Shea is has lead a very rough life but was able to turn it into something that has been helpful to others. She has her dream career as a naval nurse, and is in love with the man of her dreams David Flacon , and it seems she has it all. An incredible feeling that she's had all her life that she sees as a gut feeling starts to grow, showering her with emotions and premonitions that suggest a great darkness is near. Just when she thinks she cannot take anymore , Joel, arrives to help her over come the darkness that is descending on them and learns that she is an empath. Rebecca's life is thrown into chaos when war hits Hawaii's shore. As the Japanese bomb her home, taking the lives of people close to her heart , her gift explodes within her. Loss and pain become her new way of life. She abandons all hope and shuts down her empathic abilities. With bodies littering the hospitals and seas, her calling as a nurse is put to good use, but her heart remains unreachable. Can she find her way out of the blackness and accept her true fate? Or will the prevailing death and destruction of war consume her? If you want to learn the answers to these questions I would highly suggest getting this book!!!!!!! Dawn Brower is an exceptionally talented author and was able to create something that is so emotionally dedicated to Loss, pain, hatred, and Love....

When I picked up Broken Pearl I know that I might have a hard time reading this book as my grandfather was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and I know the tole that time took on him. I am not going to lie, some parts were rather difficult for me to read, but that is only because they were so well written that they reminded me of what my grandfather endured and brought tears to my eyes. That is really the highest compliment that I can pay Ms. Brower, that her books was so well written and full of detail that it made me cry and evoked memories of someone close to me. Broken Pearl is such a unique book that I am not sure how to describe it. There is the horrors of war and the personal tole it takes on people. Friendship and love play an important role in the story. There is some sweet romance and a touch of the unknown. Despite the tears I really enjoyed this book as I had not read anything like it before. The characters are strong, the descriptions take you right into the action, and the story is well crafted. Great read that I highly recommend to people looking for something different and refreshing. 5/5 stars for a fantastic story that pulls on your heartstrings.
