About the Author

Pushcart Prize nominee Melissa Carl has been writing poetry for over fifteen years. In 2001 she participated in the poetry workshop of the former U.S. Poet Laureate, Billy Collins, at Southampton College. Her prize-winning work has appeared in various regional and national publications, both in print and online. She published her first poetry collection, Proof, in 2005. She has appeared on public television programs for poetry and she reads her work regularly in various venues in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina. She holds bachelor degrees in education and European and world history as well as a master’s degree in liberal arts. A member of Mensa, she currently teaches honors and advanced placement courses and directs the gifted program at the West York Area High School in York, Pennsylvania. She spends her summers with her husband and son in Oak Island, North Carolina.
