Telling Bree no has never been easy. Four years ago, Liam Hollister did it to preserve his friendship with his best friend—Brianna's brother. Now, no matter how she tempts him, he's determined to do the right thing. As deputy sheriff of their rural area, Liam is torn between protecting Brianna and wanting her for himself.

Take a risk or lose the chance.

Spending so much time alone together challenges them both. Old feelings and hurts resurface immediately. With each hot, sweaty day it's harder to deny their attraction.

It's going to be a long, hot summer.

Favorite Quotes: Every place is safe, until it isn’t… So far I’ve written three tickets. Almost enough to fill the quota the department denies it has for the day. Nothing before you even exists for me anymore… My Review: I was stunned when I realized this was not a Lost Kings book, as I had settled in expecting to feel the revving of Harleys. Alas, it was not to be. It appears that Ms. Lake has taken a detour from her favorite MC and chose to look at the world from the other side of a badge for a change, and I for one, enjoyed the view she created. So shift your expectations from outlaws to a man in uniform. Bullets and Bonfires provided an angsty and steamy second chance at romance storyline for a couple who completely lost out on their first chance for love - other than a teenage kiss. Bree and Liam’s second chance arrived after several years apart and many unfortunate mistakes later. Written from a dual POV, the story testily seesawed back and forth, as the disturbing events of Bree’s life after she had left for college and then met someone new were revealed in chilling fragments. Unlike with laundry detergent ads, new does not always mean improved. But for Ms. Lake’s Lost King fans, I bid you to stay sharp, as she does toss us a few little Teller treats with a handful of crossover scenes. As one of her characters suggested, "Celebrate the little victories."

I ended up reading this book in one day! I haven't read a 'couldn't put it down' book in a while and I was excited that I was glued to this story. This was my first Autumn Lake book and it definitely didn't disappoint! Bree and Liam had a lot of great chemistry, but even better than that these characters had depth. Bree's battered, but definitely not broken. While she's embarrassed to be home and that she ended up in an abusive relationship, it doesn't stop her from healing, getting even stronger and moving on with her life. I loved watching her grow as well as her interactions with Liam! Liam was definitely the protective type, but I think it had a lot to do with already being half in love with Bree anyway. Sometimes I wanted to shake him since he kept deeming Bree 'off limits' since she was his best friend's sister. I totally get it, but on the other hand I'm like 'you're an adult! you already love her! ugh do something!' haha. Other than that, Liam was such a great character. I loved that Lake wrote the story in alternating points of view in order to peek into Liam's mind. It was nice to see him not only struggle through his attraction and feelings, but also see him grow and heal in his own way as well. I loved how both of these characters healed and grew better because of each other. This story wasn't all about the sexy times (which of course were fabulous!), but also about two characters finally finding each other, then growing and bettering each other together. Of course a 'protection' romance story couldn't be without some suspense! Lake did a great job of keeping the tension of Bree's situation going throughout the novel. There were some suspenseful moments that kept me gripped to the story even if I saw some of them coming. There are so many little scenes and actions between the characters that I loved and I so wish I could share, but of course, no spoilers here! ;) I will say that I loved the little interactions between Bree and Liam and how their former relationship growing up together really showed in their present relationship. I just loved seeing them fall in love. I'd definitely recommend this novel to romance lovers, especially those who love a second chance romance or the forbidden love trope! Liam and Bree's story was a delight to read about and I'm so glad I got to meet these two characters and see them & their relationship grow!

Omg this story, I can't even it's that good no wait it's amazing and great all wrapped into one. There are not enough words for me to describe this story or what I think about it. I FLoved it to pieces. I love me some LOKI but this story was like icing on the cake, you got to know a few more characters in the town that aren't related to the MC at all maybe know someone in it but that's different. All the characters have gotten along well except for Chad and Chris they can burn for all I care, even if I don't like them they helped form Liam and Bree's story. The story unfolds and you can't help but fall in love with everything the good the bad and the super ugly. By the time I reached the end I didn't want it to end or be over, my fingers are crossed that i get to see more of them again maybe Vince will have his own story. This is a MUST READ story from cover to cover hands down one of the best stories I have read this year, my jaw had to be picked up tons of times off the floor. ***I received this ARC for free in exchange for my honest thoughts***

Friends that what Liam and Bree are…..Liam is her brother’s best friend….but she has always crushed on him. Bree’s life has taken a downhill turn that warrants her returning to her home town, to her brother and to Liam. Liam was the perfect ALPHA to Bree’s demeanor. I was a little unsure of Bree’s manner but she proved me wrong! Bullets and Bonfires was my first read from the author, I believe Ms. Lake was able to take an all too common situation and make a woman strong. I recommend this book, but warn there may be triggers for some. Great story!

I'm just going to start off saying OMG you've got to read this book! I was drawn in from the very first and didn't put this book down until the end. Brianna (Bree) Avery is returning home after her ex boyfriend assaulted her. Her brother, Vince, has asked his best friend, Deputy Sheriff Liam Hollister to look after her until he can get home. Liam has been fighting his attraction to Bree since childhood. In the past he chose his friendship with Vince over a possibility of a more than friendship relationship with Bree. Bree thinks that in the past he pushed away her advances because he wasn't attracted to her. Liam is the true alpha male but he knows just the right ways to take care of and manage Bree. Manage sounds terrible but that is really what he is doing. He's getting her to open up about what happened to her, to take self defense lessons and to shoot a gun, among other things. Bree is going through all the emotions of an abused person. Her self esteem is low. She's embarrassed. Especially after the childhood she had. It doesn't take long for this young lady to show just how strong she is. I love Liam's parent's. They've always thought of Bree and Vince as part of their family and the advise his mom gives Bree is wonderful and just what she needs to hear. It takes quite a bit of convincing on Bree's part to get Liam to act on their feeling. He soon realizes that she is more important than anything else in his life. The intrigue in this book left me glued to my seat. I was so scared for Bree. She proved just how tough she really is. I wondered why Vince seemed to be staying away from home. I couldn't figure out if he really couldn't get away from work or if because of dealing with what he had to deal with his Mom growing up that he couldn't deal with the possibility that Bree was going down the same path. I really hope there is a book with Vince's story in the future. This is the first book I have read by Autumn Jones Lake and I am extremely glad to say I will now be stalking her. I love her writing style and absolutely loved this book!

Kudos to Ms. Lake for taking on a heavy subject matter and making it work. The storyline is one that is generally glossed over by many authors, but this author faced it head-on and did a superb job. I love that she tackled the fear and embarrassment that accompanies domestic violence. I also love that she tackled therapy and anti-depressants. These are real-life reactions and issues and I felt like the story was real. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I am looking forward to reading more. I love how she tied in characters from her MC series to this book without it being about them. Because of the way this was handled I'm actually looking forward to reading a few of the MC books now (and I've never been a fan of MC books). I love the way she handled the relationship between Liam and Bree. They tiptoed around each other not realizing how the other felt. He felt a responsibility to her brother to protect her even though it meant walking away from her. I love talk Bree had with her brother Vince when he finally came home. I wish there had been more, but I realize the book was not about them. I'm hoping to see more of these characters in the future. Thanks for a fabulous read. Well Done!!!!

Liam is an alpha male like no other. Bree is a survivor and a strong willed sassy heroine. Together they are magic. If you are a fan of Autumn's books your going to love this.

Another 5+ star read for Autumn Jones Lake! This woman writes a book, I read it. Bing, bang, boom; done! AJL transitions from mild humor to haunting life reminders seamlessly. Seriously, I need more than five stars to rate this book; maybe a 100 would do. Scorching, hot read; complete with humor, drama, angst and suspense! Chemistry between the H and h was off-the-charts. Loved the give and take between the Liam and Bree. As Bree's brothers' best friend, Liam straddles the line of caring for Bree in a way her brother would expect, and feeling a romantic connection. "The last thing I'd ever want to do is make her cry. I used to be the one she'd come to when she needed cheering up." "I'd do that anyway. Not because I think of her as a little sister. None of my feelings for Bree are brotherly." I think it was very important that Liam respected the way Bree worked through the journey of coming back from the bad relationship she'd been in. He offered advice, consoled and most importantly; introduced her to a way of defending and protecting her. He recognized that as much as he wanted to step in, solve all of her problems; that wasn't what was best. I honestly don't think I've read a character that I thought was more real-life than Bree. She struggled mightily with missing the signs in her bad relationship. She had moments of inferiority and insecurity. In the end, she overcame and proved exactly how strong she is! Side notes: I definitely want to read Bree's brother, Vince's story. Loved the appearances of the Lost Kings guys! Jake an Sully also need stories.

A fantabulous start to another awesome series is how I would start to describe this. Liam and Bree are wonderfully flawed and complicated characters. Bree is working hard to overcome a traumatic, abusive relationship. Liam is trying to do what he feels is the right thing according to the "bro-code" yet he is undeniably drawn to Bree. The character interaction and development is very well done. Autumn Jones Lake delivers another couple that you root for throughout the whole book. The storyline has a great pace with a mixture of angst, drama, action, and humor. The glimpses we see of the other players definitely gives you something to look forward to. This book is one I would definitely recommend to both new readers of Autumn Jones Lake and those who already love and adore her Lost Kings

What can I say to encourage you to buy this book?!! It's worth every penny, it has ALL "the feels", and you don't have to read the Lost King series to understand the story (although it's an AWESOME series and highly addictive!!!) But it was nice to see Teller and Murphy pop up and make an appearance!! I LOVED this book and it was so easy to fall into the story and become emotionally invested!! Although I was SO frustrated with Bree and Liam I wanted to scream, I also laughed out loud (I was reading outside so I looked around to make sure I didn't sound crazy to anyone.) I also cried to the point where I had to stop reading to collect myself. This story was so good I didn't want it to end!! Not to mention the scorching hot sex!! I cannot recommend this book enough!! It's absolutely fabulous and I promise you that you won't be sorry you bought it!! Enjoy!!
