CHAPTER 1
Once upon a time there was a little boy who was always so busy playing he never wanted to stop and go to bed.
It seemed as though every time he was having the most fun his mother would call, "Bed time, Derek! It is time to take your bath."
Sometimes he would get so upset he would start to cry.
So one night when Derek didn't want to go to bed, his mother said, "Don't cry Derek. Tonight I will put a ticket under your pillow and, if you hurry to sleep, you can catch the train that goes to By-Lo-Land."
"Where's that?" asked Derek. "I've never been to By-Lo-Land."
"No," said his mother, "because you're always late, and so you miss the train. The conductor doesn't stop for little boys who are awake. If you're asleep when he comes along, he will take your ticket from under your pillow and then you can get on the train with all the other boys and girls.
Away you will go, and in no time at all the train will pull into the station. It is marked "By-Lo-Land" and you can follow the other children through the big gates.
On the other side of the gates you will see a wide street with trees and little shops on both sides.
At the end of the street are a sandy beach and a beautiful blue lake. I suppose you will want to run right down to the water, but first I think you should visit the shops, because they are just for children and everything in them is FREE.
