"'I'm telling the truth,' she tried to press her. 'There are other people on the island, besides the stranger.' Changing direction, Calypso began to unwind the thread from her left wrist and wind it back onto the ball. 'You'd do well to sleep more,' she threw at her in the end, without looking at her. 'And to stop dreaming so much. Too many dreams are harmful. And let's not forget that we both carry the burden of centuries of fatigue.' Centuries have passed since Odysseus set sail, and Calypso, true to her name, covers her island with the fog of her veils, keeping the world hidden, thus isolating Melanthi, the last servant she has left. Until one day, a stranger from the modern age arrives on the island. His arrival will bring memories from the past to life, and test the hospitality of both past and present times. Slowly, Melanthi will begin to see what Calypso can no longer conceal.

About the Author

Η Δήµητρα Κολλιάκου (γενν. 1968) µεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα. Έκανε φιλολογικές σπουδές στο ΕΚΠΑ και µεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στη γλωσσολογία στο Πανεπιστήµιο του Εδιµβούργου. Δίδαξε θεωρητική γλωσσολογία στο Πανεπιστήµιο του Newcastle (1995-2010) πριν εγκατασταθεί στο Παρίσι, όπου διδάσκει γλώσσα και αγγλόφωνη λογοτεχνία σε διεθνές λύκειο. Για το λογοτεχνικό της έργο έχει τιµηθεί µε πολλά βραβεία, µεταξύ άλλων µε το Athens Prize for Literature και µε το βραβείο µυθιστορήµατος του Ιδρύµατος Πέτρου Χάρη της Ακαδηµίας Αθηνών για τη Θερµοκρασία δωµατίου (Εκδόσεις Πατάκη, 2006· τέταρτη έκδοση, 2020) και µε το Κρατικό Βραβείο Διηγήµατος και το λογοτεχνικό βραβείο του περιοδικού Ο Αναγνώστης για το Αλφαβητάρι εντόµων (Εκδόσεις Πατάκη, 2018). Από τις Εκδόσεις Πατάκη κυκλοφορούν επίσης τα έργα της: Η αρρώστια των βουνών (2009, νουβέλες), Το πρόσωπο του ουρανού (2013, μυθιστόρημα), Ήμισυ του παντός (2015, μυθιστόρημα), Αταραξία (2022, μυθιστόρημα). Συνεργάζεται τακτικά µε τα λογοτεχνικά περιοδικά Φρέαρ και Χάρτης.
