When Cassie Dixon's mother dies in the brothel where she worked and where Cassie was raised, the owner gives Cassie a choice—take her mother's place or to get out. Cassie chooses to leave, and after meeting with a friend, she decides to become a mail-order bride to a rancher in Texas, and a mother to his eleven-year-old daughter, Lindy.

However, when Cassie arrives in Texas, she learns that her groom is dead. Cassie has no choice but to write to her friend and hope she would send enough money for Cassie to get home.

When Beckett Ford (his friends call him Beck), invites her to stay at the ranch in the meantime, she hesitates, but finally agrees. Maybe Cassie can help Lindy to deal with her father's death, just as she's dealing with her own loss.

As time goes by, Cassie finds herself falling in love with Beck, Lindy and Sapphire Springs. And when a bank draft arrives, she has a decision to make. Should she tell Beck the money has arrived and stay until he tires of her, or go now and make a clean break?

About the Author

Margery Scott is the author of more than thirty novels, novellas and short stories in various genres.

She has always admired the men and women who settled the untamed land west of the Mississippi. Growing up, she was a fan of TV westerns like Maverick, Rawhide and Gunsmoke and stories about western characters such as Annie Oakley, Roy Rogers and Rin Tin Tin. It was only natural that when she started writing, she wrote what she'd always loved to watch and read.

Margery lives in Canada with her husband, and when she's not writing or traveling in search of the perfect setting for her next novel, you can usually find her wielding a pair of knitting needles or a pool cue.
