A 7 year old girl in Victoria wrote to the government pleading to save the lives of a mob of kangaroos in her town who were in the way of development. But she and her classmates were ignored. After befriending Joey, a baby kangaroo whose mother was killed by the school bus, she had a cunning plan to fly to New Zealand with Joey and talk to government representatives to ask why they cared about their national icon, the Kiwi. On the journey they ventured into the remote parts of South Island alone where they met a rare wild kiwi who told them the answers they were looking for, along with bestowing a surprise gift on Joey.
