The adventures of Jane Yellowrock continue with a thrilling new installment in the New York Times bestselling series that captures “the essence of urban fantasy” (SF Site).

Jane Yellowrock is a shape-shifting skinwalker...and the woman rogue vampires fear most.
Jane walks softly and carries a big stake to keep the peace in New Orleans, all part of her job as official Enforcer to Leo Pellissier, Master of the City. But Leo’s reign is being threatened by a visit from a delegation of ancient European vampires seeking to expand their dominions.
And there’s another danger to the city. When she hears reports of revenant vampires, loose in NOLA and out for blood, Jane goes to put them down—and discovers there’s something unusual about these revenants. They never should have risen.
Jane must test her strength against a deadly, unnatural magic beyond human understanding, and a ruthless cadre of near-immortals whose thirst for power knows no bounds...

In COLD REIGN, Jane Yellowrock #11, Jane finally takes on the much anticipated, dreaded European Vampires while dealing with her own changing magical nature. This book will get your heart racing and mind whirling in so many good ways. We have your sneaky Eurovamps coming to town before the official meeting under cover of a magically fueled storm that just will not let up. They are hiding in several places looking to divide and conquer, while doing all they can to kidnap, maim, and torture Leo, Gregoire, and their prime people, vamps and otherwise. Jane, with her associates and Bruiser, spends much of her time running back and forth between Vamp central attacks, strange human riots, and violence around the city while torrential rains and supernatural lighting nearly immobilizes NOLA. Revenant vampires are causing havoc and harm; they are much harder to put down than the usual ones so all of Jane’s fighting and supernatural skills are needed. There is so much amped up magic around that seems to be driving these revenants as well as the relentless tempest. Jane has been having “issues” with her magic so she goes back to her Cherokee elders for help after getting advice from Angie baby’s angel. So much has changed with the way she deals with the supernatural domain and as usual, Jane is scrambling to figure out what the heck is going with that world and in her own body. The mystical state of her grey-in-between plays a big role here as well as Jane’s learning to control and use it. On a personal front, Jane and Bruiser’s relationship seems to be going in a particular direction that is deeper and a bit scary for the loner that she is. Jane would rather fight off zombie vampires than deal with emotions especially her own. And who should show up but Jane’s old lying, cheating, heartbreaker ex-boyfriend, Ricky Bo. He is leading an investigation for PSYLED which is one of the many government agencies trying to deal with the chaos both on the human and supernatural front. Ricky Bo has more than a professional interest in Jane along with some unfinished business. People have strong feelings about Rick LaFleur so prepare to be riled up at their interactions. Followers of the Jane Yellowrock series will be pleased to finally see some action between the dreaded Eurovamps and Leo, who as usual has so many plots and strategic moves going on, some dating back centuries, which are so complicated, it makes Jane’s head spin. Aand as always, Leo seems to delight in making Jane as uncomfortable as possible with his physical presence and sensuous innuendos while trying to trick her into doing his nefarious bidding. This book hits the ground running with such a thrill ride pace that you may feel breathless at the end, but well satisfied with the journey.

This book had so much in it. You must definitely be a fan of Jane's world to follow along. It answers a lot of questions and leaves us hungry for more answers! I cannot wait for the next one as so much is hanging in the air! Loved it, read it in 2 days! Highly recommended. But advice to read the previous books I the series first.

Better & better!! Anyone complaining before that Jane was becoming a damsel in distress has their answer, Jane is getting better and better all the time, including her ability to kick vamp (or other) butt! This is a must read for anyone who likes their urban fiction heavy on plot, unfortunately too many series are becoming carbon copies of endless sex scenes without their characters actually growing. Thank goodness for Jane! She has come so far from Skinwalker, but still has the toughness and smarts we've come to know and love. My only suggestion is that you go ahead & binge on this one, but then go back & read the whole series in order. Faith Hunter is brilliant the way she has woven the whole series into one piece, and you don't want to miss a word!

One of the best books in the series! I've been a big fan of Jane/Beast right from the start. However, in the last couple of installments Jane was getting a pretty serious beat down from visiting vamps, fanghead politics, and being surprised left and right by new, unexpected magical abilities and moral dilemmas. Finally, after much personal struggle and growth, we start to see Jane coming into her own and kicking some butt. Once again, we get a suspenseful and action packed plot set in the backdrop of a vibrant (if soggy) New Orleans. The world building in this series is second to none. One of the best, most endearing traits that Hunter is able to imbue in her characters is the simple love and loyalty of family. Even when things are toughest and the excrement is hitting the proverbial rotating blades, the newly forged bonds of family holds true. Jane, Eli, and the Kid were brought together by circumstance through their security business dealings earlier in the series, but have since found a home in each other. They are the first seeds in the newly recognized (and reluctantly growing) Clan Yellowrock in the scheme of NOLA vampire politics. In her personal life,it is also entirely satisfying to see Jane allowing herself to explore what Bruiser is offering in a relationship...and a mutual love of bacon isn't a terrible place from which to start. Two thumbs up for another JY book you won't be able to put down. Definitely my favorite book in the latter half of this series so far.

The Europeans are coming, the Europeans are coming, or they might already be here. Once again, Leo’s tight-lipped policy causes all kinds of head aches, heart aches and just general mayhem for Jane, everyone she holds dear and the NOLA in general. Revenants are running wild. A bunch of key New Orleans vamps have gone missing. And a ghost ship has docked off shore. It is what manages to make it assure that puts everyone at risk. I flat out love this series. Faith Hunter never fails to bring a high octane adventure that keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat and reading into the wee-hours of the morning. I love watching the dynamics between Jane and her family by choice grow and evolve. COLD REIGN is packed full of this character growth and new and exciting developments that I've come to expect and love from Hunter. I knew before I even clicked on this ebook, I was going to be hooked…it of course, is another Jane Yellowrock adventure…what’s not to LOVE! With every installment, I am amazed by the fresh, new and exciting twists Hunter manages to through our way and of course, new perils Jane and the gang must face. I do admit, I’m a little concerned about the possible all the complications in Jane’s love life and hope that directions might be taken to just make more heart ache for Jane. In the end, I found myself completely immersed in Cold Reign. Faith Hunter had me hook, line and sinker…and I didn’t want this experience to end. And that is just what this was, an experience in another world, the amazing imagings of Faith Hunter. Sure to delight any urban fantasy fan, check out COLD REIGN. I received this copy of COLD REIGN from Berkley Publishing Group - Ace. This is my honest and voluntary review.
