Carl Van Doren (1885-1950) was an American critic and biographer.  His best-known works are The American Novel (1921), an immensely influential work of criticism, Why I Am an Unbeliever (1926), and Benjamin Franklin (1938), for which he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize.
