Middleton's unique and captivating portrayal of his life as a cop on the streets of Los Angeles discusses heart-heavy, brutal and serious situations with a special optimistic tone. As we, the reader are given an inside view of the LAPD, corruptness within even the department is place upon a pedestal for us to judge and observe that although on the force, their jobs are to "protect and serve" they are nothing more than mere human beings trying to better the world we live in...they are not much different than us. Michael's memoir of his time serving as an officer discusses everything from racial strife to drug abuse and even violence within the homes of broke families. As he pours out his heart and every thought into this insightful novel, we see both the prideful and vulnerable sides of this accomplished officer. Living his life on the edge every day, facing all of the craziness that the streets of L.A. threw at him is what molded this thankful, experienced officer. This memoir really breaks the chains of your stereotypical Los Angeles Cop. Perhaps this is why I found it so difficult to put the book down. The gritty streets, close to death shootouts, intimidation of the gangs...all of these are what make Middleton's novel a story you won't forget. Life lessons are filled in here and there so the reader has something to take away from the memoir. For a book that is brutally honest, adventure-filled, and a quick read, Michael Middleton's "Cop: A True Story" is the book for you.

I bought this book a couple of days ago and finished it in a day and a half, this book tells you what it is really like being in law enforcement, the good side and bad side of it. There's drama, emotions, and different perspectives being viewed. Highly recommend getting it, you won't regret it.

This book tells honestly, and bluntly what it was like for one L.A. police officer. Although it did make me rethink whether or not i really wanted to be a police officer, because of all the dangers.
