Costly Mistakes

Cara woke up slowly and stretched her body much like a contented cat. It had been a long time since she had enjoyed such a wonderful night’s sleep. Being in her own gorgeous little apartment had made all the difference. She knew that she was so very lucky that her best friend happened to be rich enough to own a private island. Sydney had been her best friend for years and, fortunately for Cara, Sydney’s family loved her just as if she were actually Sydney’s sister. That was the reason she had been able to room with Sydney in this incredible apartment. Sydney’s parents had insisted on footing their bills to give the girls a chance to make the most of their summer internships without having to worry about money.
Naturally, Cara’s parents weren’t enthusiastic about the arrangement because they felt that if life was too “easy” for her, she would expect things to always just fall into her lap in the future. What they didn’t get was just how difficult this internship would be if she also had to find a part time job. They also didn’t seem to understand how much the internship would mean when she went looking for a real job. Her parents were pretty much old school when it came to things like this. They believed that she should have to work her ass off in order to get a great education.
Cara stood up to them this time, though. Patiently, she explained her facts of life in a manner that they could easily understand. It didn’t matter if they approved of her way of doing things or not. This is how she was taking the next step on the path to her career.
She thought about all of these things as she mentally planned her day. This morning, she would be assisting in a meeting with a new, upcoming author and she was pretty excited about that. There were lots of meetings in the medical publishing business.
