Now immortal, Paige is emotionally and physically stronger than ever. She must find the location of the ancient incantations to prevent mass genocide. But the war against good and evil is spawning another war–a battle between the dark spirits themselves. Paige is saddled in the center of both growing revolutions and is ready to take on the dark forces. But Nathan's overprotectiveness prevents her from taking action, and he's hiding things.

Paige's personal life gets more complicated when Brayden arrives back in town and offers the equal partnership she desperately craves from Nathan. Then there's Carrie and Tree, her two best friends and only family she has left. Unfortunate circumstances thrust them into Paige's dark world, giving her no choice but to allow Nathan to arm them with combat techniques in hope they'll be able to protect themselves.

Meanwhile, Paige is having visions and discovering abilities she was unaware of. When Anwar comes to visit, his weird behavior alarms her. Could he be turning to the dark side?

Time is running out. Paige not only needs to find the incantations but also to untangle the bands around her heart and make a decision that could leave her with a life worse than death–a life of betrayal from the ones she trusted most.

"Even more thrilling than the first. This is a captivating series you won't put down and will leave you hungry for more."–Felicia Tatum, author of The White Aura

"Paige is a strong courageous character and Dark Spirits will make your heart pound with the emotion and action!"–Julie Huss author of the I Am Just Junco series

Okay, I can’t say it enough. Rebekkah Ford rocks when it comes to her Beyond the Eyes series. Dark Spirits is a great sequel book 1. It keeps the suspense level high and makes you eager to read what comes next. It does for me, which is why I’m off to book 3.

Dark Spirits takes off from where the first book in the series, Beyond the Eyes, leaves off. Firstly, I want to point out that this novel can stand alone. You do not need to read book #1 of the series to enjoy book #2. However, there are some great insights if you do - and I do recommend reading both books. Secondly, I thought Rebekkah Ford did a wonderful job of summarizing the first book within the second book in such a way that, if you had read the first book, that it didn't seem redundant. Also, if you didn't read the first book, the summaries are very thorough and fill you in on all the back story quite nicely. The characters are multi-faceted and well thought out. Each character had his or her own unique style about them. I loved the character of Paige. Her growth from book #1 to book #2 reminds me of Luke Skywalker's growth in the Star Wars (original) trilogy. You see Paige as a young high schooler, living pretty much alone, and very teenager-like in the first book. She matures in that book and starts off book #2 with a sense of self that really allowed her character to come across as so real in the book. I'm looking forward to book #3 to see more from this strong character. The love interest, Nathan, was wonderful. I loved that the author didn't make these young lovers so blissfully ignorant and goo-goo eyed throughout the books. They work on their relationship and build their love on a strong foundation, but there are issues along the way. Namely - a love triangle with Brayden. Love, especially young love, doesn't just magically happen and the whole world is peaches and cream. I absolutely love that the couple had issues. The human side characters were very enjoyable. In fact, it would be nice if Tree and Carrie had their own book spin-off! :-) I enjoyed the evil dark spirits immensely. I won't write a spoiler, but one of their abilities sent a chill down my spine. That's good writing! :-) The dark spirits also reminded me of the demons from the TV show Supernatural (which is one of my favorite shows). Very compelling evilness! Loved it. This is a great YA novel and I'm going to recommend it to my daughter. I do think many adults who enjoy paranormal will like this book as well. I did.

A very entertaining book that pulled me in from the beginning. Ford's characters are well-developed with engaging and very human flaws. (Perfect people are boring.) The story flows smoothly and is action-packed, with bits of steamy romance and lots of intrigue, making this an excellent weekend read. This second installment in the Beyond the Eyes series picks up several months after Paige has become immortal. In that brief time, she's begun to sharpen some of her spiritual powers and is becoming accustomed to the perks of immortality and exploring her relationship with Nathan. As new powers emerge, so do new threats, and she begins to question the loyalty of her friends, and even Nathan. Does he love her? She's quite confident that he does, but also worried that his love is a bit too possessive and protective and she doesn't want to be coddled and protected when there's so much at stake. We also see things from Nathan's perspective. He has his reasons for keeping Paige cloistered and isolated, but can he protect her and still protect humanity? And if he can't do both, which will he choose? All in all, Dark Spirits is a fun, spooky ride and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Dark Spirits was a thrilling read that kept me coming back for more! I rushed through all my responsibilities so I could get back to find out what happens next. I thought Beyond the Eyes was a great read, but this one was even better. Paige and Nathan make a wonderfully romantic and relatable couple. In the first book, we see them fall in love. In this one, we see them really start to know each other on a deeper level and they’re finding what makes the other tick. I think author Rebekkah Ford did a wonderful job in developing these two; romantically and their personalities. Carrie and Tree are great sidekicks for Paige. I love the depth of their friendship and how protective they all are of the others. I can’t wait to see what happens with them in the next book. I have a feeling they will be coming along for the adventure that’s set up at the end of the novel. We briefly meet Brayden in book one, a brief meeting no one seemed to enjoy but him. He appears a lot in Dark Sprits. Paige seems to trust him, but I know I don’t. I’m very curious about who he really is and can’t wait to find out! This book was amazing. I read an ARC and I’m soooo glad the author let me. It was wonderful and I definitely will be following for the next in the series.

This book was given to me for an HONEST review. When we last left Paige her grandmother had just told her the horrific thing that she had done to her. She took the power of what was in Solomon’s rings and put it in Paige as a baby. Well she won’t be winning any grandma of the year awards. Paige is all over the drama in this book with the mood swings. I get she is only 18 a child still really but she’s immortal now and a lot more important things are going on for her feelings to be hurt every other second. She knows there are things she can’t tell her friends for their own good but gets made at Nathan for sometimes doing the same with her. She doesn’t give him a chance to do things on his own terms and jumps to conclusions and reacts before thinking. I never understood those couples who needed to know every aspect of each other’s lives but maybe that’s just my flaw. With the craziness going on in her life she needs to nut up or shut up. I’m three chapters in and already her childishness is giving me a headache. That being said, any author that can make me seriously dislike a character is a keeper in my book. I read to escape into another world if I can conjure real emotions for a false world then job well done in my book. This go round the ‘old one’ and Aosoth – two dark spirits are on two different sides of an upcoming cluster. They both want something from Paige and will do whatever it takes to get her. Then there are the spirits that don’t want Paige to be possessed by either dark spirit. They don’t want to be controlled by anyway and whoever has the power in Solomon’s rings and the incantations can do just that. All the while Paige doesn’t want anyone to know she is what can control them and she wants to get to the incantations. Then we have Brayden. Ugh still don’t like him and I don’t like how Paige likes to compare him to Nathan. “Brayden would have let me do this.” “Brayden would have let me do that.” Seriously? Brayden violated you and all you’re worried about are petty emotions because Nathan – your boyfriend – wants to protect you and is worried about your safety. Instead of talking to Nathan about your feelings you sneak around with Brayden to valid your own selfish feelings with someone who is more selfish than you. That’s not how love works. You compromise or throw in the towel. You don’t basically cheat on your significant other because you’re not getting your way. Oh and lies by omission are still lies. Rant over. I just don’t like Brayden if you didn’t notice. We find out who killed Paige’s father and grandmother. I didn’t think to even put it together. Totally threw one over me and I was even more surprised by who offered this information to Paige. Ms. Ford has created a remarkable world with characters you love and hate. It’s a new inventive world and the second book is just as good if not better than the first. Favorite Quote: Nathan to Pagie “I have over a century in this dark world and both Brayden and you are just fledglings.” Ha! That about sums it up! 5 out of 5 stars.
