Overview

Boys4U is the world's most popular singing group - at least among teenaged girls - and they have closed out their sold-out world tour with a series of shows in Chicago's brand new arena. The premier group of the inexplicably popular "boy band" trend, they've just finished their very last concert of the tour. While hundreds of tour members, well-wishers, label executives, and various hangers on wait to celebrate another wildly successful tour, the lead singer is found murdered - shot in the back of the head at close range - in the shower of the backstage dressing area.

Mark Richard Zubro is the author of numerous mysteries, including the Lambda Literary Award-winning A Simple Suburban Murder and, most recently, Here Comes the Corpse. He is a teacher and lives in Mokena, Illinois.

Mark Richard Zubro is the Lambda Literary Award winning author of two gay mystery series - the Tom&Scott series featuring high school teacher Tom Mason and his lover professional baseball player Scott Carpenter, and the Paul Turner series, featuring gay Chicago Police Detective Paul Turner. A pop band is rocked when the Boys4U national tour ends in Chicago with a real bang. In the new amphitheater's shower room, homicide detectives Paul Turner (gay) and Buck Fenwick (hetero) find teen idol and band member Roger Stendar apparently executed with a bullet to the brain. But whoever did it obviously wanted to do more: The band's bottled water supply has been tampered with, special effects flying rigs have been cut, and the performance stage has been shot up. Did band members Jason Devane, Danny Galyak, Ivan Pappas, and Dexter Clendenen have it in for each other? Or is someone else to blame? The president of Riveting Records, Jonathan Franklin Zawicki, who catapulted the boys to fame, insists they all got along fine, and Jordan Pastern, head of the band's personal security detail, agrees. But young Dexter, in the midst of a major emotional breakdown and terrified enough to appear on Paul's doorstep desperate for help, hints at dark secrets. Meanwhile, obnoxious Hot Trends music critic Randall Blundlefitz imagines the glory he'll win by solving the mystery-a fine idea, he thinks, until he too is killed. Slogging, steady police work, mostly by Paul, reveals not only sordid sexual demands made on the boys but betrayal by someone they most trusted. Paul (Sex and Murder.Com, 2001, etc.) is once again so noble and knowing that he could audition for the title role in Father Knows Best.
