My review: This is my first book written by N. D. Wilson and after reading it, I will probably read all his other books as well. It was THAT good. Death by Living is an ode for life. I guess many of you know the saying "Nothing is certain but death and taxes". Let's leave taxes out of this review and concentrate on death... and life. This book is about nothing but living your life spending it to maximum and not wasting any minute of it. It's about laughing from you heart, enjoying the very small things in your life, it's about understanding your life and being happy. I loved how N. D. Wilson was writing it. Even though it's a non-fiction book, Wilson is extremely talented storyteller. You learn about author's family by small and funny stories and it is greatly inspiring. It is thought-awakening and touching and funny in the same time. When I started reading it, I was expecting some serious topics and serious talks, but this book was very different. Yes, it touches serious topics and deals with what is the most appreciated thing on earth - our own lives, but he does it with such a respect and lightness which leaves you with positive feelings and clarity. I read it during few hours and was surprised that it was as captivating as any other good book I love. It's brilliantly written!

I read this book after the death of a good friend, and it was not what I expected. N.D. Wilson is an artist with words; he paints sentences and paragraphs in such a profound yet easily understood way.  His stories really bring the subject to life. I learned about death, yes, but I more-so learned about living. His explanation of God's hand in death was also revolutionary for me.

N. D.Wilson in his new book , “Death By Living” published by Thomas Nelson shows us Life Is Meant to Be Spent. From the back cover:   A poetic portrait of faith, futility, and the joy of this mortal life. In this astoundingly unique book, bestselling author N.D. Wilson reminds each of us that to truly live we must recognize that we are dying. Every second we create more of our past—more decisions, more breathing, more love and more loathing, all of it slides by into the gone as we race to grab at more moments, at more memories made and already fading. We are all authors, creators of our own pasts, of the books that will be our lives. We stare at the future or obsess about the present, but only the past has been set in stone, and we are the ones setting it. When we race across the wet concrete of time without purpose, without goals, without laughter and love and sacrifice, then we fail in our mortal moment. We race toward our inevitable ends without artistry and without beauty. All of us must pause and breathe. See the past, see your life as the fruit of providence and thousands of personal narratives. What led to you? You did not choose where to set your feet in time. You choose where to set them next. Then, we must see the future, not just to stare into the fog of distant years but to see the crystal choices as they race toward us in this sharp foreground we call the present. We stand in the now.  God says create. Live. Choose. Shape the past. Etch your life in stone, and what you make will be forever. The Biography Channel has the tag live, “Every Life Tells A Story”.  We each have a beginning, our birth date, and we each have an ending, the day we die.  In between these two dates on our tombstone is a dash and that is where our story lies.  Mr. Wilson explores the stories that led up to us, our grandparents and parents, and then helps us open our eyes to consciously focus on the chapters that we will create after them in our lives.  ”Death By Living” is an eye-opening experience that if taken and used will greatly open and enrich your life.  I think you will want to give this book to family and friends so that they can have a new perspective also.  They will always remember your gift and thank you for it.  I recommend this book highly!
