Death Stalks The Fireline (1, #2)

Jason Keeting has finally settled back into relative normalcy as the chief of Spruce Bay Fire in North Idaho after a series of harrowing and tragic incidents. With the help of an out-of-district firefighter acting undercover, he was able to assist law enforcement in the arrest of almost the entire board of fire commissioners in his small rural fire department. But just as the proverbial dust has settled and he has begun helping his fiancée, Jennifer, with the planning of their wedding, he receives a call for help from his good friend, Marty Jackson, the fire chief, at a district just across the border in Whitman, Washington. Marty has been seriously injured in a cannery fire, the cause of which is suspicious, and he asks Jason to fill in for him, running the district until Marty can get back on his feet. Jason readily agrees; however, within a day of arriving as the substitute fire chief, he finds himself in a quandary when the fire crews find themselves in danger while responding to what should have been the extinction of a simple wheat stubble fire. After several more similar incidents, Jason arrives at the conclusion that someone is targeting Whitman Fire firefighters. Incensed, Jason enlists Shaun Gaines, a trusted volunteer from his own fire district, to assist him in an undercover investigative operation. He soon regrets, however, pulling Shaun into the line of fire.

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jon Guinn, a retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel and Vietnam veteran, was born and raised in Walla Walla, Washington.   He attended Washington State University, paying his way by working as a wildland firefighter and forest service lookout for the U.S. Forest Service. Upon earning a degree in Police Science and Administration, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). While serving in the Air Force, he was selected to attend Turkish language school. He was subsequently assigned to Istanbul, Turkey, where he served as the detachment commander for the AFOSI. While in Turkey, he got the itch to start writing when he awoke one night after a dream that inspired a fantastic spy storyline. Not having had experience or even a natural talent for writing, he dismissed his initial inclinations for a while; however, the intriguing plot kept haunting him such that he finally succumbed to his desire to try his hand at writing. He started his spy mystery manuscript on a small portable typewriter in Istanbul in 1979.  That particular manuscript has unfortunately languished in a drawer ever since.

Upon retiring from twenty years of service with the Air Force, Jon still felt a need to serve his local community, so he trained to work as a volunteer firefighter and EMT at his local fire district. After ten years at that rewarding work, he transferred his talents to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department as a background investigator and polygrapher. Upon full retirement, and with numerous interesting firefighting incidents haunting him, the itch to write returned.  That is when he started his first book, Brotherhood of Fire. With the thrill of publishing that first book, ideas for sequels began popping up, the first of which has resulted in Death Stalks the Fire Line. A Brother Down is also in the works, but won't be out until the middle of 2025. Someday, that original spy mystery set in Turkey may also come alive.
