Lewis Deathstalker's adventures continue satisyingly along the path Deathstalker Legacy laid out, with the usual satisfying Green twists and turnabouts. Outlawed and on the run, Lewis and his companions return to the places where the survivors of Owen's time hide and slowly pick up clues, all of which guide them to the Madness Maze. The Empire crumbles and finally falls into Finn Durandal's clutches. A plucky reporter rescues King Douglas at his execution with the help of the last true paragon. And like the title suggests, Owen Deathstalker returns and reveals the shocking true nature of the Terror.I think this adventure is even better than the Deathstalker's first. Green continues to demonstrate the importance of truth, which gels nicely with Owen's commitment to history over legend. The characters are given interesting chances to grow. This far into the series, there are still many surprises, though some of Green's patterns become predictable. Hint: if he sets up something as wonderful, it's going to be destroyed soon. Regeneration tanks are a bit too handy, but the peril is through the roof, so I suppose if you want anyone to be left at the end to tell about it, you need a miracle or two.

I need to read more stories in this series, and re-read them. This is a story of one of the ancestors of Owen Deathstalker. Lewis Deathstalker is on the run, with a motley crew of misfits trying to find out as much as he can before going into the maze. The maze can kill but it can also expand the person's abilities.Interesting but the story is very incomplete and up in the air because of back and forward story, definitely a mid-series story.

I first become hooked on the Deathstalker series 4 years ago. Since then I have read every book in the series. I was very much surprised when looking for a good book to read in the S.F. section of Barnes and Noble store a new hard cover book titled - Deathstalker Return. I immediately started to read the first few pages and was again reintroduced into the Deathstalker world. The new characters are interesting with a nice blend of some of the old characters who are still living. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the Deathstalker series.

The second Empire was bright and good, with human, AI, esper and alien living together in harmony. On the empire¿s capital world, King Douglas appointed Lewis Deathstalker as the King¿s Champion much to the dismay of Finn Durandal who expected the appointment. Finn managed to trump up charges against Lewis and become the King¿s Champion but Deathstalker escaped along with Douglas¿s fiancée.

They escape in a stolen spaceship along with a con artist thief, a sociopathic gladiator and Saturday the replitoid. These five outlaws must find a way to stop Finn¿s growing reign of terror as he consolidates his power. Their final destination after a series of adventures is the world of Haden where Lewis must travel to the center of the Madness Maze in the hopes of bringing his illustrious ancestor Owen Deathstalker back from the dead. Only he can stop Finn and the terror, a phenomenon that is destroying all inhabited worlds.

Fans of the various Star Wars and Star Trek novels are going to love Simon R. Green¿s epic science fiction series. There is plenty of action and adventure but basically DEATHSTALKER RETURN is a story about people, men and women who rise to the occasion and become heroes vs. those who take advantage of a situation and become villains. The story is told from both points of views so readers understand what is going on in the minds and hearts of the characters at all times. There is going to be another book in the series because there is one very big question that must be answered and the author cleverly sets it up with the last sentence of the last page.
