Overview

Wayne Guthrie, a reclusive small town police detective and two understudies investigate a murder thinly disguised as a hunting accident. The victim, Harry Achermann, may have stolen from the CIA, exploited a global diamond cartel, and decimated a beleaguered tribe in South Africa. The victim's infidelities and ill-gotten gains mean suspects abound, from the CIA to Achermann’s estranged wife; from DeBeers, the infamous global diamond cartel, to Dirk LeBeau, the manager of the hunting club where Achermann met his fate. Rick LeBeau, Dirk’s son and Achermann’s guide the day he was killed is not beyond suspicion, nor is Kelley Sutton, an irresistible beauty on the club staff. In search of a definitive clue, Guthrie revisits the crime scene where someone targets him with a laser sight right where Achermann was felled.

About the Author

An American born in Paris, Hurlock passed much of his youth in Europe where American tourists and expatriates formed his first impressions of American character and experience. He has a bachelor’s degree in English and American Studies from Princeton University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he wrote more than a dozen case studies. He has also written for magazines covering the industries in which he has worked. He is married with three children.
