About the Author

I went to law school with steadfast determination to practice law, although I really wasn't sure what a lawyer actually did. This certainly sounds foolish considering what's at stake, but it's an ignorance all too common amongst many incoming law students.

When I graduated law school I had a job at a venerable Philadelphia law firm, but circumstances derailed my incipient career, and I was laid off only months into my position as an associate. I then began to question why I initially went to law school, and realized a firm answer didn't exist. I never fully questioned or contemplated the decision - it was more of a foregone conclusion rooted in childhood.

Regret soon followed, as I considered other opportunities I had passed, and other potential careers entirely unrelated to the law. I took the chance unemployment provided and explored some of the adventures a conventional career in the law did not entail. I briefly worked in the entertainment industry, but ultimately went back to practicing law. I've meandered through what seems like practically every possible legal position in existence, and now practice in the field of personal injury.

I wrote this career guide to provide potential law students with the knowledge I would have wanted from the beginning of undergraduate school, at a time when my marriage to a legal career already seemed solidified.

I enjoy practicing law, but it took a circuitous path to arrive at my current position. The reports in my book are a reflection of what I learned while traveling this winding path, and will provide the reader with a window into a legal career.
