About the Author

Fred Gaffen, military historian at the Canadian War Museum, has been working in the Canadian historical field for over twenty-five years. He received his B.A. from Carleton University and his M.A. in history from the University of Ottawa. In addition to his books, Forgotten Soldiers, In the Eye of the Storm and Unknown Warriors, he has contributed numerous articles to military and historical periodicals.


Dan Bjarnason was a television news and documentary reporter for the National at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for over 35 years. His world-wide assignments, including time as a foreign correspondent, allowed him to indulge his passion for military history and to visit dozens of battlefields from the Little Bighorn to the Falklands. He lives in Toronto.

Ted Barris is an award-winning author, journalist, and broadcaster. For more than forty years his writing has appeared in the national press, as well as in history, news, and arts magazines, and he has authored seventeen non-fiction books, including the national bestsellers Victory at Vimy, Juno, and The Great Escape. In 2014, The Great Escape received the national Libris Non-Fiction Book of the Year Award. He teaches journalism at Centennial College in Toronto and lives in Uxbridge, Ontario.


Mark Bourrie is an award-winning writer who holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Ottawa. He has written for all of Canada's newspapers and magazines. His last book, The Fog of War: Censorship of Canada's Media in World War II, reached number six on Maclean's non-fiction bestseller list. He lives in Ottawa.


John Melady is a veteran writer on Canadian history and space exploration. His many books include Pearson's Prize, Canadians in Space, Korea, and Heartbreak and Heroism. He lives in Egmondville, Ontario.
