Eater of Souls: The Food
A serial killer is terrorizing rural Narvaez County, Florida. The two highest ranking detectives in the Sheriff's Department, Paul McCready and Donna Parker, faced with a murderer unlike any they've ever had to confront, set out to bring him to justice. But this serial killer is different, so fearless and violent that even police officers fall to him. As the bodies stack up, McCready and Parker come to realize that this is no ordinary murderer. Reluctantly, they face the truth. This killer is, in fact, a vampire.
Paul McCready and Donna Parker find themselves drawn to each other. Soon, McCready, the taciturn and easygoing Iraq veteran, finds himself in a torrid love affair with the beautiful and kinky Donna Parker.
All the while, the case becomes more baffling. The backwoods Sheriff's Department has to adapt to the challenge of restructuring in order to deal with this new threat. The FBI becomes involved in the hunt. Suddenly, McCready and Donna find their abilities and their love tested.

Meanwhile, Michael Dalton, former Master of Fine Arts student, is now a newly formed vampire. He's forced out of his life as a depressed and financially strapped member of the grad school community at the big state university in Tampa. Now he must roam far and wide and fight desperately to feed himself. He is now a solitary monster, hunted by the authorities, unguided and inept.
When he is forced out of Tampa, he flees to the countryside and finds himself in Narvaez County. For the first time, he hears of the vampire Community and that he might find a place within it.
This story is a gritty police procedural, an erotic romance, and a tale of supernatural immortals, located in a modern and realistic setting.

About the Author

Dallas Dunlap lives in a rural county north of the Tampa Bay area. He spent nearly twenty years in EMS before returning to graduate school. He now teaches economics at a local college.

"I've been writing all my life," Dunlap says. "But it wasn't until the advent of e-books that I seriously thought of publishing anything.
"All my books," he says, "deal with a fictional county in west central Florida, just north of Tampa Bay. The focus is on the Sheriff's Department there. My first book, "The Cabin" was a time travel story. The major characters from that book come back as minor characters in my vampire series, "The Food" and "Blood Spirit." The main characters are working deputies drawn as realistically as possible.
The series started as a simple thought experiment. How would a modern rural Sheriff's Department deal with a vampire? I let the characters take it from there. I decided to tell the whole story - the sex, the gore, and the strengths and weaknesses of each character.
"I try to take fantasy situations and use well defined characters, elaborately detailed settings, and realistic dialogue to make the story believable," Dunlap says. "I want to do quality horror and science fiction that's completely different from typical genre work."

"The problem is," he adds, "I'm kind of a loner and I suck at marketing. But I'm learning. So please, folks, check out my books. They're very good value for the money. And, hey, I could use some reviews."
