Elements of Performance is based on Pauline Koner's course of the same name taught at the Juilliard School in New York. It discusses her theories of the primary and secondary elements of the art of performing. The primary elements are Emotion, Motivation, Focus and Dynamics and the secondary are those of the craft: stage props, hand props, cloth of different length and weight, Chinese ribbons, costumes and stage deportment. Pauline Koner is a dancer, choreogrpaher, teacher and writer. she was artist in residence at the North Carolina School of Arts form 1965-1976 and performed at the White House in 1967. About the Author

Pauline Koner a dancer, choreographer, teacher and writer. After studying with Michel Fokine, Michio Ito and Angel Cansino, she went on to give solo performances of her own works from 1930-1945 and in 1935 was the first American dancer to be invited to perform in the Soviet Union. From 1946-1960, Pauline was a guest artist with the Jose Limon Dance Company, and also founded her own dance company in 1949. From 1965- 1976, she was Artist in Residence at the North Carolina School of Arts, and in 1967 she performed at the White House. She has taught in major dance schools and universities. Throughout the world and is currently on the faculity of the Juilliard School of Dance in New York.
