About the Author

Edison Marshall (1894-1967).

The Marshall family moved from Indiana to Oregon when Edison was 14, and, according to his later writings, he loved the area. He attended the University of Oregon there but decided to leave college and take up writing after selling a short story to The Argosy magazine. A prolific writing career that included wide recognition of his writing skills followed.

Marshall spent time abroad as a wild game hunter and those experiences obviously contributed greatly to his writing, but he is best known for his stories about the great Northwest. Some of the latter, incorporate personal experiences such as the time he was lost and nearly froze to death in a blizzard, and another time when he barely escaped death when he was charged by a wounded grizzly bear.
