CHAPTER 1

On Tuesday nights, Ellen's daddy tucks her into bed and takes her on an adventure. "Ellen, its bedtime." her daddy calls out. Ellen rushes to her bed and snuggles under the covers.

"Do you have your friend LaLa? She wants to go on your princess adventure with you." Ellen holds up her dolly and smiles.....

"Hear ye, hear ye," Ellen reads from a sign posted on a tree in the Queen's forest, "all those who wish to be a princess. Queen Passel, of the Castle Nastle, has announced this year's competition: the first girl to bring a Bassel's Tassel to Queen Passel will become princess."

"What's a Bassel, LaLa?" asks Ellen. "I don't know. What's a tassel?" LaLa replies. "Oh no, I'll never be a princess." "Don't worry Ellen, if we look hard enough we will figure it out," said LaLa.

The two girls headed down a path in the woods, headed to the Castle Nastle. Ahead in the trees they saw a strange bird. "Maybe he knows where to find a Bassel's Tassel," Ellen said. LaLa grabbed Ellen's hand as they got closer.

"Excuse me, Mr. Bird, do you...." "My name is McMarrow W. Sparrow, how can I help?" "We need to find a Bassel's Tassel, can you help?" The bird laughed at the question. "What's so funny?" LaLa asked. "Who's ever heard of such a thing? Please go, I need to be alone to laugh," McMarrow said. Ellen and LaLa walked away holding hands.

The two girls were walking by a pond when they heard a voice call out. "Bassel's Tassel, huh?" it said. They didn't know where the voice was coming from. "Down here, in the water. I'm Van Jout the Trout." "Nice to meet you," Ellen said, "What do you know of a Bassel's Tassel?" "It's a mystery," said Van Jout, "No one really knows. Queen Passel sometimes doesn't make any sense. Good luck." The fish swam away. "Oh no," said Ellen, "Now I'll never be a princess." "Don't worry, we can figure it out," said LaLa as they walked down the path.
