Emotions in Psychology and Psychotherapy
Are emotions disruptive influences that should be ignored, or are they the core of our personal being? Are emotions reliable sources of information? Should we trust them? What are moods? How are they different from emotions? Does expressing emotions improve wellbeing or make matters worse? When we say that someone is emotionally disturbed, what are we really sayings? How are emotions, psychopathology, physical disease, and many common problems of daily living related to each other? What makes some situations stressful when similar ones aren't? Why are some people more affected by stress than others? How can people become happier? These are just a few of the topics explored by Steven G. Brownlow, Ph.D. in this groundbreaking book. A Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Brownlow has combined the research on stress, mood and emotions with the experience and findings of psychotherapists to show how moods and emotions influence our lives, often outside our awareness. This book will help professionals such as coaches, counselors and psychotherapists understand why people behave the way they do, but will also help anyone struggling to understand the emotions and behavior of themselves or others.
