One must be a print or broadcast media star to be included here but this is a useful ready reference tool for most general reference, mass media, and popular culture collections. Alphabetical entries are brief and most provide adequate overviews. Taft, a journalism author and educator, has selected names from a good cross section of sources including Who's Who and other biographical publications, journalism histories, lists of journalism prize winners, and current journalism and news periodicals. This is not intended to be an exhaustive guide, so it's a good idea to keep Journalist Biographies Master Index (Gale, 1979) close at hand. Incidentally, the entry for Nelson Poynter should be updated to indicate that his Modern Media Institute became the Poynter Institute back in 1983.
