Raffi Cavoukian is an internationally renowned musician and performer for children, best known for hits like Baby Beluga, Bananaphone, and Down by the Bay. He is the founder of the Centre for Child Honouring, which advocates for an ecological worldview, a whole-systems shift in the way we make decisions that affect our children's world. Nina Mata is the New York Times bestselling illustrator of She's Got This by gymnast Laurie Hernandez. Nina's family emigrated from the Philippines when she was 6 years old. Her after school activities usually involved watching Bob Ross, Reading Rainbow and looking for adventures in the library. She studied Illustration at The Fashion Institute of Technology of NY. During her editorial internship at Sesame Workshop, Nina discovered her love of children's books. She now creates illustrations for childrens publishing and is passionate about representing the beauty and diversity of the world. She currently lives in New Jersey with her husband, their daughter and Tabi, the cat. PreS- Gr 2-- This book uses full-color photos to illustrate the lyrics of one of Raffi's loveliest songs: ``A blade of grass, fingers and toes,/ Hair on my head,/ A red, red, rose./ Everything grows, anyone knows . . .'' Unfortunately, the photos have a contrived look; that they show child-oriented objects (puppies, corn on the cob, dandelion fluff) and faces from several races compensates only a little. Like the song's lyrics, they are simple, direct, and warm; but they are shallow and belie the deeper meaning of the words. Lyrics and the song's melody line (transcribed with three sharps--very difficult for beginning musicians to play), with simple guitar chords, appear on the final page. This effort does not stand on its own as a picture book, nor does it do justice to the song it represents. --Liza Bliss, Worcester Public Library, MA
