When ancient man first started gazing up at the stars and witnessing their births and deaths, humanity had no idea of the truth of them. The truth was that man was seeing a war raging billions upon billions of light years away in a remote corner of this vast universe.
The war was waged between two powerful races, both wanting dominion over the universe. Fearing defeat, one of the warring races created an object of immeasurable power. Thinking that their enemies were creating a new doomsday weapon, the other race stole the object in order to study it in hopes of using it themselves.
However, during the chase to get the object back, the ship carrying the object crash landed on ancient Earth. Upon learning of the object and its immense un-tapped power, man fought against man to possess it.
As the war raged on between the two races, both knew that neither side could win unless the tides of battle turned. The longer the war went on the creators of the object grew more and more determined to find it. So, they created an artificially intelligent machine weapon (a probe) and programmed it with various scenarios. They sent it out into the universe to retrieve the object.
The machine had roamed the vast darkness of space for millennia destroying everything that came between it and the object. It was by mere chance that the machine came upon and old Earth probe and created a secondary mission of returning it to its owners. The machine had no clue that this alien probe would lead it to its destination.
When the machine determined that the humans did indeed have knowledge of the objects whereabouts, it proceeded to complete its mission and retrieve the object at mans expense...
