Overview

Old man Pettson has ten hens in his hen house. Findus the cat often teases them and plays chase with them around the yard. The chickens are Findus' best friends, second only to Pettson. But one day, Pettson brings home a rooster. The rooster is loud, and does not want Findus to play with the hens. In fact the rooster chases him away! Sven Nordqvist (b, 1946) is a well-loved Swedish children’s author and illustrator. The Findus and Pettson stories draw on his playful adventures with his two young sons, and his unique illustrations are inspired by a delight in everyday life. Sven Nordqvist sets out intentionally to create a safe world in his Pettson and Findus series; a world in which problems can find resolution.

This is the latest in the characterful series about Findus the cat and Farmer Pettson. In this story a rooster comes to live with the chickens. Findus feels very put out that the chickens no longer want to play with him, and especially that the rooster makes a lot of noise! Findus and Pettson try various strategies to resolve this, but in the end the rooster leaves, making the chickens very sad, although they are all cheered up at the prospect of expecting chicks!
