Reviewed by Michelle Randall for Readers' Favorite Sloane had it all; a job she loved, a great best friend, and she was going to marry the man of her dreams, then, in the blink of an eye, everything was shattered. A car crash took her fiancé, Michael, from her and she didn't think she could go on. Now, as a paranormal real estate agent, she has been searching haunted houses for a year, looking to make contact with Michael. She's in a small town in the middle of nowhere, the last place she would expect to find him, but find him she does, and not only him but a house full of ghosts. These ghosts are in pain, the last moments of their lives were horrific and they are forced to relive them over and over again in this house. Sloane is determined to set them free, but the only problem is she has no idea how to do that. First Contact is the well written and well developed story of a young woman who has a sensitivity to the spirit world and can sense their presence. At the same time, it is a mystery story of a serial killer who has escaped notice for years and Sloane's desire to bring him to justice. Author Kat Green has written a book that will keep you glued to the story until the last page. First Contact is the first book in a series called Haunts for Sale. Sloane is a paranormal real estate agent, which means she can sense the presence of spirits in a house and whether they are kind or malevolent, because there is a whole market for people wanting to buy haunted houses these days. Most of her work is with gentle spirits just hanging out where they have always been, but not this job. Sloane walks into something she has no clue about. This is a page turner, but there are some elements with the whole serial killer angle that might offend a few readers, so I would recommend it only to adult readers.

Thanks to YABoundBookTours for the opportunity to read and review First Contact by Kat de Falla and Rachel Green (Kat Green)! First Contact marks the beginning of the Haunts for Sale series. Sloane is a paranormal real estate agent that searches for haunted houses that her customers want to purchase. She's using this guise to search for her fiance, Michael, who was killed by a drunk driver just weeks before their wedding. He had a motto for being patient and now Sloane is following it to search for him: "...be patient and if things weren't working out, give it a year and a day." This is now Sloane's mantra to keep her going. The haunting mystery holds suspense and creepiness throughout the whole story. The romance factor adds a nice, warm touch to the spooky tale. Lovable protagonists and horrible antagonists kept me on my toes! I give this book 4 stars and recommend it to anyone wanting a macabre, spooky adult read!

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I haven’t read a book in the paranormal genre before. You can normally find me reading romance with the occasional sci-fi, fantasy, or YA thrown in. When I was given this book I didn’t really know what I would think about it, but I always like to try new things so I jumped right in, and I was pleasantly surprised! I really liked this book and I hope to see more books released from this series. When the book starts out we find Sloane setting off to check out a house in Waukesha Wisconsin, hoping she will finally be able to contact her fiance who died in a car crash a year ago right before their wedding. What she doesn’t expect is to find him, only to have him warn her of the house and what secrets it holds. When she starts to hear and see the ghosts of women coming from the basement, she enlists the help of her friend Jonah, an FBI agent and also a sensitive that can connect with ghosts, to find out what happened to them. As she starts to investigate the disappearances of women from the area over the years, she finds herself face to face with the murderer himself. Did she delve too deep in the search for Michael that she will finally join him in the afterlife, or will she find a way to fight and survive. I highly recommend you give this book a try. It was a quick read that really had me hooked, and now I want more. I’d love to have more back story on how Sloane first met Michael and Jonah, and how she got involved with the paranormal in the first place. There is so much potential for this series and I am really excited to see where the authors take it from here.

First Contact I was given a free copy, through Lovers of Paranormal, in exchange for a review. Sloane had a great life, before the accident. Now, everything has been changed. Losing her fiance Michael was a crushing event. She tried to get on with her life, by finding his ghost. She'll have a year and a day (one of Michael's favorite sayings) to make contact & what better way to do it than to become a paranormal realtor. But, sometimes you get exactly what you want, along with finding a bunch of things you don't want. Now, it's a race against time, just to survive. 'And now she been waiting three hundred sixty five days, twenty-one hours and - she paused to glance at the Mickey Mouse watch he'd given to her - twenty eight minutes for him to come back and haunt her or to make contact. Though she'd always know he'd take a year and a day to do it, she smiled to herself. It was just like him to make her wait.' Pretty entertaining read. A little on the predictable side & some silly moments, but still interesting enough to keep me going. Just the perfect length too; the author did not drag this story, which is a plus for her.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal on Goodreads). *Spoiler Alert**** What I really enjoyed about this story was the writing. Ms. Green did a great job at describing her characters themselves and in various situations. The language between the main character and others was charming, witty and funny. The scenes and environment were well developed along with the other supporting characters.  The reason I did not give this story five stars was because as charming as Sloane can be, she was a very irritating character for me to really enjoy. She doesn't have any common sense if her life depended on it, and literally, her life did depend on her decisions. There were many times in the story where she would get blatant warnings from the villain informing her that she would be the next victim. She even knew who the villain was and she still decided to go into his haunted house when everyone warns her not to.She even has bad vibes about the house and knows that it isn't a good idea to enter. All of her actions and decisions were really hard to believe because I didn't think anyone would really walk into a killer's house when they just told you that you would be the next victim. Another aspect of the story I didn't understand was her following her fiancé's ghost? Sloane is a realtor that finds houses that are haunted for people but in reality she is really looking for her dead fiancé's ghost…. when she has never even had an experience with the paranormal. I did not understand why a woman would try to find a ghost when she has never seen one? How does she know they really exist? Because her best friend can sense ghosts so she thinks she can find one? Also, if she is working alone, why does she think she will experience the paranormal? Most people in that work with the paranormal don't work alone so I thought this was odd. Even if she didn't have enough money to hire someone, she could have at least brought someone with her. Overall, I thought that this story lacked a stronger main character and plot. It was obvious from the beginning that she was going to be a victim from her no-common-sense actions. As I was reading, I was waiting for when she was going to be killed and/or tortured. The story was very predictable but the writing was well done. I would like to thank Ms. Green for sharing her work with me.

Just when you think you have it all figured out . . . . bazinga! (For my fellow Sheldon Fans @BigBang_CBS) This paranormal mystery book is full of misleads, detours, flashbacks, and my personal favorite, sarcastic wit and humor. Author Kat Green keeps you on the on the hook by using those tricks, that will have you saying, “Oh, I see what you did there. . . . .” The personal journey that the heroine is going through, the loss of a loved one and how to move on, is universal, and one all of us can relate to on one level or another. Your emotions will run the gamut, from sympathy to fear, from anger to laughter, and then to wanting to know the character more in the next installments of the series. The paranormal aspect is very interesting and has many facets. The heroine is discovering her abilities as she comes into her 'First Contact' with the paranormal. So we get a firsthand account of becoming a sensitive. As the house she is inspecting is filled with the spirits of murdered women, let's just say she goes from beginner to advanced very quickly, as she has to solve their murders to set them free! Author Kat Green has put out an amazing read in their debut novel, I highly recommend that you buy this book and come back and look for Book 2. I know I will be checking for news of their next release on their Facebook page under Author Kat Green and their Twitter account @hauntsforsale This book would make a great stocking stuffer for your loved one who likes a little scary with their mystery reading! #christmas2014 #stockingstuffer

I really enjoyed First Contact.  Sloane is a very real character.  She's been through profound loss and is struggling to pick up the pieces of her life.  She's got a pretty damn cool job as a paranormal real estate agent (where do I sign up?), and it is this that leads to her to investigate a potentially haunted home in Wisconsin for an interested buyer.  As she delves deeper into the mystery of the house, the situation becomes increasingly dangerous.  I was not expecting just how dark things got, but I loved every minute of it.  I can't wait for book two!    ***I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the goodreads group Lovers of Paranormal, LOP.***

I want to be a paranormal realtor when I grow up! What a fabulous job that would be, and what a unique idea for a book! Sloane Osbourne is a likable realtor with a smart mouth and a spine made out of steel, two qualities that should be required in her line of work. The ghosts were creepy, and I enjoyed watching as the mystery of the house unfolded. I do wish that the love interest had been fleshed out a little more since we only really get to know him through flashbacks. Also, there were quite a few missing words, letters, and improper word selections, which took away from my enjoyment of the book while I tried to decode it. But overall, this is a solid story.

This was an interesting read, something a little different. A paranormal real estate agent is a unique, fun idea. It creeped me out near the end. I even loved how there was a weird love triangle in the story. I recommend this to anyone who loves horror and paranormal books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  There were enough twists and turns to hold my interest. Each time I thought I knew what was coming the author threw in another twist.  My only complaint is it wasn't long enough.  I read the book in one day and I wanted more!  I can't wait for the next book in the series..
