Forged in Fire (A Tempered Steel Novel, #5) by Maggie Adams

"Lady, if I were you, I'd get the hell away from here 'cause when I make it up this hill, I'm gonna be looking for you." Lucky Coalson's luck has run out.  His ex-wife turned out to be a con artist; his business is in a shambles; and he's been tossed into a muddy river by a smart assed feminist with a chip on her shoulder.  Things couldn't get much worse…or so he thought.

When Lucky's accused of murdering his ex-wife, the Coalson family enlists the help of a private investigator to gather the clues necessary to prove his innocence. Little did they know that Renee Morgan is the same woman that sent Lucky scrambling up a sodden river bank at the height of a storm.

The two square off immediately, but Renee's admiration of the Coalson family, despite her dislike of Lucky, is the deciding factor in her acceptance of the job. And although Lucky bristles every time she speaks, he grudgingly respects her intelligence and savvy skills as a private investigator.

As the hunt for the killer escalates, the two find they are not the only ones looking for the mysterious assassin. And the other people are more than willing to take out anyone that gets in their way, including those that Lucky and Renee hold dear to their hearts.

In a moment of passion that rocks them to the core, they realize their love may be forged in fire, but both have been badly burned by past lovers, and too stubborn to admit the truth.  Can they find a way around their fears, or will Lucky's ex-wife continue to plague him from the grave?

Hi! I'm Maggie Adams. I live near St. Louis, MO with my high school sweetheart, Ned, and my wonderful kids, Katie (Kyle) and Ross (Valerie). My life is like a walking, talking sitcom from I Love Lucy, but I love it, although people do tend to keep their distance from me! Writing has always been my dream, with reading my favorite hobby. Things are ramping up and coming to light as Lucky now battles the truth about Claudia and how she was connected. They now have even more people working with them and this new team of PI's is wrecking two of the brothers at once. Tons of cross stories going on at once. Plenty of action and yup the steam is getting steamier with a few snags in the midst of it all. This author does know how to spin a tale and it works well. Finding out what started this and how far it goes back and just whose behind it all before the body count gets higher is not going to be easy.

MyRating: 4.5 Favorite Quotes: I would appreciate it if you would sit down and let me finish. Your fire breathing dragon act is singeing my eyebrows... Lucky wanted to laugh as the bikers backed up at her hysterical rantings. The closest one looked up at Lucky. 'Dude, we're a motley crew, but this chick is just plain weird, dropping off a cliff like Tinkerbell on a bad trip. My Review: Forged In Fire was highly active and fraught with peril for the brave Coalson clan and their new love interests, and this time, two brothers have found new reasons to get up in the morning. Several new, unique, and interesting characters were added to the intriguing storyline, as well as several layers of bad guys - who were not only battling the Coalsons but each other as well. The writing was highly descriptive, I could almost hear the crack of the thunder, see the lightning, and feel the rain and urgency of the workers as they battled the storm. While a large part of the mystery was solved - the puzzle remains incomplete. All this drama occurred while wild storms were raging, bullets were flying, babies were born, and new romances germinated and gave us something to look forward to with book #6. I can only hope Ms. Adams has been chained to her computer and is currently pounding it out.
