This is a great post-apocalyptic story. The human race has been devastated by The Heat, a djinn developed virus to clear the planet for their own use. Deirdre just happens to be immune and she’s at a wildlife research station in the high mountains. She’s managed to gather food and supplies from the surrounding town and homes but winter is coming and she has to decide to stay put with the possibility of being discovered or try to make it to a group of survivors in New Mexico. She’s out on one last walk to the overlook trying to make a decision when she finds Amaal laying in a heap near a pond. He’s been laid low by a device Deirdre has built that was supposed to nullify djinn powers. She’s surprised that it works but now she has a captive djinn. Amaal tells her these are his lands (he was just thinking how bored he was exiled from his LA penthouse) and she informs him they are her lands too then she locks him in a cage. The story is about them finding a way to trust each other. His race is responsible for the destruction of her race. He would have to commit to her forever in order to keep her safe. It’s a rocky road with likeable characters that come from opposite ends of the spectrum. You can understand both points of view. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

Deirdre made it through the Heat, whilst her fellow students died around her. She has survived by hiding out at the Wildlife station attached her university. She came across Miles broadcast on how to build the Djinn suppression device and feels a mite safer during her excursions to seek food. Straying further than usual she comes across, Amaal and Shanghai's him back to the wildlife station. Now at a loss what to do with her captive, Deidre finds herself in a bit of a quandary. Amaal doesn't seem to be the boogie man that the Djinn were painted as and she fins herself drawn to him. Amaal convinces Deidre to go with him to his cabin and they soon are comfortable with each other. But how will Deidre react when she realises that Amaal found her suppression device and he has been free of its influence for some time? Strong characters who play off each others strengths and weaknesses. Amaal again is a djinn who is kind of ambivalent to humans. He didn't want them all to die but he didn't go out of his way to save them either! Great story and can't wait to see what happens next!

Once I began reading I couldn't stop! I love how the characters within each book are very different and were really brought into their world.

Forgotten is not forgettable, a book that I quickly plowed through in a matter of days. As the relationship between Deirdre and Amaal progresses, we see them go from capture and captive to a strong relationship in a matter of weeks. This is not a direct sequel to Stolen, it’s not required to read the previous book but one key piece you need to know is that there is a way to weaken the djinn. The story starts a few months after the Heat, Deirdre is at a crossroads with the decision to leave her current hide out or head to New Mexico, where she knows there are more survivors of the Heat. Eventually, in a clearing not too far from her location, Deirdre comes across Amaal, who is weakened from a device that Deirdre has on her person. She soon takes him captive and begins to try and understand what makes the djinn different from humans in a scientific manner. As time passes the pair begin to talk and get to know one another. Eventually, after sometime the pair begin to care for one another, Deirdre asks Amaal a question that could change everything. The response and reaction to the answer could make or break them as a couple. Overall, a great read. I highly recommend any of Christine Pope’s books. I have enjoyed all of them. This one has a lot of heart and gives you the feels. I couldn’t put it down after I started it was a gripping story. I’m excited to read more about the djinn and the after affects of the Heat. This makes for a great post apocalyptic romance without that apocalyptic feel. I did receive an ARC copy of this book, but it no way affects my opinion.
