Chapter One
Definition 1. Shape:
Shape is the space that an object occupies.
Geometric shapes can be open or closed.
Open shapes are: points, lines, and curves.
2. Closed shapes are figures made closed: triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, all these are made with segment lines.
3. Polygons
Polygons are figures classified by the number of sides they have. They can be regular if the sides are all the same length
They can be irregular if the sides are all different lengths.
A. Triangle
With three straight lines, we can make a polygon called a Triangle.
1. Equilateral:
A triangle has three straight sides.
It also has three ankles equal to 180°. A triangle can be Equilateral if all the sides are equal in length
2. Isosceles: Has two sides equal in length.
3. Scalene: Has all sides different in length.
According to the angles the triangle can be:
4. Acute triangle if it has an acute angle that measures less than 90°
5. Obtuse triangle if one of the angles is obtuse, or measuring more than 90°
6. Right triangle if one of the angles is right measuring 90°
B. Quadrilateral: Is a polygon with four straight sides.
1. Square: Is a polygon with all sides straight and the same length.
2. Rectangle: Is a polygon with two short sides and two long sides and four right angles.
3. Parallelogram: Is a rectangle that has two pairs of parallel sides, but not all the angles are right.
4. Rhombus: Is a polygon with four straight sides of equal length.
5. Trapezoid: Is a polygon with four straight sides and only two parallel sides
C. Pentagon: Is a polygon with five straight sides.
D. Hexagon: Is a polygon with six straight side
E. Heptagon: Is a polygon with seven straight sides
F. Octagon: Is a polygon with eight straight sides
