THREE WEEKS AGO, Cassie Crow left Chicago armed with a naked charm bracelet and a full box of condoms. Now, she sat alongside her traveling companions and dearest friends, crammed together on a wooden bench of indeterminate age in the great hall of an ancient Scottish castle. Cassie shifted and glanced down; the silver chain at her wrist sparkled in the late morning sun streaming in from a row of arched windows high overhead. She tilted her arm, enjoying the soft tinkle of charms that marked her travels through Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, and most recently, Scotland. No longer bare, her bracelet was loaded with tiny keepsakes she'd found in shops all over Europe.

The condom box, however, was still full.

Nearing the last leg of her vacation of a lifetime, Cassie still had not gotten the one souvenir she'd been looking forward to ever since she and her friends had first started planning this dream trip ages ago — a fabulous, wanton fling. A heart-pounding memory she couldn't stick in a photo album, plop on a shelf, or wear on her wrist.

This trip was supposed to be her chance to let go, to be impulsive, to take the risks she refused to even consider back home. Opportunities had come her way, sure, but something always seemed to stop her from sealing the deal. There had been that one guy in Monte Carlo, panty-dropping sexy, but he'd been looking for something more, um, adventurous than what she'd had in mind. Even if she spoke perfect French, how was she supposed to know "Wanna play with my monkey?" was not just a euphemism?

Oh, who was she kidding? Cassie knew what the problem really was — her. Even though she'd promised herself that once she was on vacation, she would finally let loose, the truth of the matter was, she wasn't the type to talk a perfect stranger into a one-night stand. Maybe that had been the flaw in her plan all along. In all her years of dreaming about steamy foreign encounters, she'd never envisioned how she'd actually hook up with her fantasy fling. Her brain simply skipped to the good stuff.

"This place could be on the cover of one of those romance novels you're always reading, Cass." Cassie's best friend, Bonnie, pushed the tumble of red curls away from her face and stared up at the wide wooden beams bracketing the ceiling.

"Yeah," Cassie agreed. She wasn't going to admit she'd already been thinking the same thing — had been, in fact, since the moment they'd arrived at Edinburgh Castle and she got her first up-close glimpse of the towering turrets. As she and her friends climbed the stone steps, Cassie had imagined a hulking warhorse, hooves drumming across the courtyard, kilted rider yelling something appropriately battle worthy, eyes flashing in his fierce yet handsome face.

She took in the rows of ancient battle axes and claymores lining the walls, picturing a broad-shouldered Scotsman wrapping a brawny fist around the hilt of one these weapons, muscles bulging and kilt swinging. Cassie sighed. "Sadie and Ana are going to be so sad they missed out on this."

"Don't worry about those two," Delaney muttered from Cassie's other side, tossing her long, strawberry-blond ponytail over her shoulder. "I think it's safe to say they had more than their fair share of whisky last night."

"What time did they get back to the hotel?" Cassie asked.

"No idea." Delaney shrugged. "But when I left our room this morning, they were still in bed, nursing authentic Scottish hangovers."

"Well, I'm not going for a hangover today ... just a nice buzz." Cassie nodded toward a stout little man with jowls like a bulldog who was walking between trestle tables laden with rows of empty shot glasses, checking the IDs of the crowd gathered for the castle's whisky tasting. Bulldog paused at their table and ran a jaundiced eye over their passports before handing each of them a plastic bracelet.

Though they were all in their late twenties and well past Scotland's legal drinking age, Bonnie's sweet, freckled face looked much younger. "I think he growled at me," she whispered, sliding the bracelet on her wrist.

"Be glad he didn't bark." Delaney grinned and put her own bracelet on. "He looks like he bites." Another stout little man appeared, this one with a frothy, white beard bristling beneath a cherry-red nose. Delaney's grin widened. "And he looks like Santa Claus."

"Makes sense." Cassie chuckled in agreement. "He is bearing gifts, isn't he?"

Santa proceeded to pour each of them a measure of amber liquid.

"'O thou, my Muse! Good old Scotch drink!'" Bonnie recited as she lifted her glass.

Cassie turned to her best friend and blinked. "What was that?" "Burns."

"You haven't even tried a sip yet," Delaney argued.

"No, Robert Burns. Famous Scottish poet," Bonnie explained and raised her glass higher, striking a dramatic pose. "'Inspire me, till I lisp and wink, To sing thy name!'" "Um, if you say so," Delaney muttered, unimpressed as she lifted her own glass. Bonnie had been spouting literary passages all over Europe, ever since the start of their trip. Delaney took a whiff of her drink and coughed. "Hel-lo." She held the whisky at arm's length. "I think I'm getting drunk off the fumes."

"Oh, come on," Cassie teased. "I know you preschool teachers hit the hard stuff on a regular basis." Cassie downed her own shot. "Whoa," she wheezed, eyes watering.

"Told ya." Delaney smirked.

Cassie chugged a glass of water and refilled her tumbler from the pitcher on the table. While waiting for Santa to pour their next round, she pulled out her phone.

"Ugh, are you on that thing again?" Bonnie's usually smiling rosebud mouth dropped into a pout.

"Excuse me, but some of us can't completely disconnect from our jobs." As teachers, both Bonnie and Delaney had the summer off to do as they pleased. Even Sadie was on hiatus, having recently wrapped up her role on a daytime soap opera. Of her traveling companions, Ana was the only other one doing anything resembling work, and that was mostly checking out restaurants in the name of "research" for her catering company. "It's just a quick check of my email, okay?"

"I thought you were still on break from taping the show, anyway." Delaney downed the last of her first shot and gagged.

"I am." Cassie squinted at her phone. It was taking more effort than normal to log into her work account. Fingers sliding clumsily over the keys, she realized it wasn't a Wi-Fi issue. Delaney was right, the drink was potent. Or maybe she wasn't used to hitting the bottle before noon. One shot in and she was getting tipsy.

"ChiChat is in rerun rotation until September, but I asked Therese about scheduling a meeting when I get back next week, before the new season starts." Cassie had been working up the courage to discuss her idea for a new position with the executive producer of the morning Chicago talk show for months, and decided to bite the bullet right before she left town, hoping being on vacation would help keep her from fretting. Of course, she couldn't stop thinking about it. Bonnie was right, she'd been obsessively checking her phone the entire trip. "If Therese gets back to me, I don't want her to think I'm ignoring her."

"Well, I think you're ignoring us." Bonnie grabbed Cassie's phone and dropped it into her purse.

"Hey!" Cassie yelped as she watched her phone get swallowed into her best friend's cavernous bag. "You better not squash my phone," she warned.

Bonnie patted the side of her purse, which was big enough to hold the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, and probably did — the unabridged version. "Your phone will be fine." She paused while Santa poured the next round. "And soon enough, you'll be home, selling Therese on how you plan to change lives with serious news stories."

Once all their glasses had been refilled, Bonnie raised her fresh whisky in a toast. "To old friends and new beginnings."

Cassie clinked glasses with Bonnie and hoped her friend was right. She had a lot riding on that meeting. With a prayer for her future, Cassie downed her drink, gasping for breath as the alcohol singed her vocal chords. "How many rounds are in this tasting?" she croaked.

"Check the list." Bonnie held up the tasting brochure.

Cassie glanced at the names of whiskies and their descriptions. As she tried to do the number-of-shots-to-speed-of-getting-wasted math, she heard a squeak from Bonnie. Or maybe that was a hiccup. Cassie eyed Bonnie over the top of the paper. "You okay?"

Bonnie shook her head, blue eyes wide, mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. Cassie set the brochure down and frowned at her best friend. If Cassie was a drinking lightweight, Bonnie was a featherweight. "What's wrong? You're not going to puke, are you?"

"Puke?" From the other side of Bonnie, Delaney leaned to the side with ninja-like reflexes, her long, strawberry-blond ponytail whipping out of harm's way. "Who's puking?"

"Nobody's puking." Bonnie sucked in a breath and flipped the tasting menu over. "Look!"

Still poised for escape, Delaney read the section Bonnie was pointing at. "Some local author is visiting the castle today." She relaxed and eyed Bonnie, who was practically vibrating in her seat. "So? Why are you so excited? All your favorite authors have been dead for eons."

"Nice." Over Bonnie's head, Cassie slapped Delaney a high-five.

"Very funny." Bonnie waved the paper in Cassie's face. "It says the author is giving a lecture today, and it's open to the public. And it's in the castle library."

Cassie and Delaney groaned in unison. Bonnie was a library whore. The mere glimpse of an old book got her more worked up than a boy-band fangirl with a front-row seat and a backstage pass. Country after country, Bonnie had dragged them into every historical library and used bookstore in every city they'd visited so far. Rome had been the worst. Prior to this trip, Cassie didn't know the Italian city was home to some of the most gorgeous libraries in the world. But she knew now. She'd been in them. All of them.

To be fair, Bonnie had returned the favor and indulged Cassie's desire to visit as many museums as possible. As the bearded whisky-bearer approached with the next bottle, Cassie consulted Delaney.

"Well? Do we let her go fondle some books?"

Bonnie's gaze darted between them, feet tapping, knees bobbing, rattling the bench they were sitting on.

"Why not?" Delaney hopped up and adjusted her ponytail. "That first shot was more than enough for me, anyway." She waved a hand over her barely touched second drink. "No more for me, Santa. Thanks."

Cassie held out her glass. "I'll take one more. For the road."

Santa pulled back the decanter and frowned, the corners of his mouth disappearing into his beard.

"I'm kidding!" Cassie giggled. "We took a tour bus."

Santa poured her third shot, eyes narrowed beneath his bushy brows. "The whisky doesna leave this room," he warned, "you ken?"

"I ken." She giggled again. A sucker for that accent, she could eat him and his Scottish brogue up.

"You're getting rather giggly there, missy." Delaney observed in her teacher voice.

"Come on, Cass!" Bonnie wriggled off the bench.

"Okay, okay." Cassie quickly tossed back her third whisky and stood. The liquid burned a path from throat to belly as she got to her feet, which were less steady than she'd have liked. "All right." She turned to Bonnie. "I'm ready. Lead the way."

Ecstatic, Bonnie did an impromptu jig as she maneuvered them around tables and benches, auburn curls bouncing.

Once outside the great hall, Cassie held up a hand. The three whiskies, on top of the water she'd chugged, not to mention the monster-size latte she'd had this morning, had suddenly caught up. "You two go on ahead. I'll meet you in a minute."

"This goes against the buddy system." Delaney frowned. "You sure?"

"Yes, Miss Delaney. As long as you're sure this place has modern plumbing somewhere."

"I think the bathroom is that way." Bonnie pointed and then gestured in the opposite direction. "The library's this way."

"See? No problem." Cassie shooed them off.

Before Delaney could argue further, Bonnie yanked her down the hall. Cassie turned and headed the other way, keeping an eye out for signs for the bathroom. She grinned, recalling the funny restroom sign she saw while at a pub last night. It had the usual image for women of a stick figure wearing a triangle as a dress. But on this sign, the stick person for the men's room also wore a triangle — indicating a kilt. Too bad there hadn't been any men at the pub dressed in one. Contrary to her fantasy version of Scotland, hunky, shirtless guys in kilts weren't sprinkled liberally across the country.

Ah well, Cassie bet when people came to America they expected everyone to be dressed like cowboys. She wouldn't mind a cowboy either — or maybe a cowboy wearing a kilt — she'd throw money at a romance novel with that cover. An impromptu fantasy of Fergus McCoy, the Scottish Highland Cowboy, kept her happily occupied until she finally encountered a sign for the WC.

After locating the restroom, with flushing toilets and running water — thank goodness for anachronistic modern plumbing in ancient castles — Cassie took her time retracing her steps. Bonnie loved old books, but Cassie was fascinated with old places and adored touring castles and estates. She had started out as a cultural anthropology major in college, and if not for a stint she'd done sophomore year on the university cable access news show, she'd probably be teaching classes on culture and society, working alongside Bonnie, who was an English professor at a small liberal arts college in the city.

That had been the original plan, but Cassie didn't regret the shift her career path had taken. She loved her job on ChiChat — well, liked it, anyway — she'd love it once she convinced Therese to let her take on more meaty topics, stories with the potential to change people's lives. And while her current role on the show had more to do with social media than social history, Cassie still enjoyed studying cultures and examining the day-to-day details of how people lived.

As she made her way back toward the library, Cassie paused in front of the rooms open for viewing. Like a life-sized dollhouse, each room was decorated in painstaking detail, filled with historical props and dramatic touches so realistic the castle felt alive, as if the inhabitants had just stepped out and would be back any moment. An antique sewing basket rested at the foot of one wing-backed chair. A secretary desk stood open, revealing a stack of letters tied with a ribbon piled next to a stationary kit, complete with feathers and a brass quill knife.

Plush, red velvet ropes blocked most of the doorways, forbidding as giant stop signs, but if she leaned forward and craned her neck around the threshold, the view was worth the risk of landing on her slightly tipsy face. Maybe a little more than tipsy. Cassie blinked, looking around the empty, unfamiliar corridor. Where am I? A woman wearing a headset rushed around the corner, almost knocking Cassie over as she scurried past.

"Excuse me!" Cassie called out. "Do you know where the library is?" The women stopped short and turned around. "Hmm?"

Cassie raised her voice. "The li-bra-ry?" she overenunciated and mimed opening and closing a book.

"Oh, right." The woman pressed a button on a black box clipped at her waist. "Hold on," she barked into the microphone connected to her headset, "I think we've got one more." She returned her attention to Cassie. "Sorry about that." She shifted the microphone away from her mouth and tapped her chin. "The library. Yes. Um, I believe it is ... er ... let me think now ..."

Doubt curled in Cassie's stomach mixing with the alcohol. "You do work here, don't you?"

"What's that?" The woman smiled and nodded. "Aye, I'm working here today, sure enough. Now, the library. You'll be wanting to go down that way." She pointed to the end of the hallway where another corridor broke off on the right.

Cassie squinted down the deserted hall, uncertain. "Are you sure?" The woman nodded again. "Och, quite sure." She waved her hand in brisk dismissal. "Now, if you'll excuse me."

"Thank you!" Cassie called after the woman, who was already zipping away in the other direction. Cassie thought she heard the woman say something about getting ready because she's on her way, but couldn't be sure.

With a shrug, Cassie turned down the corridor on the right as instructed. It didn't seem familiar, but maybe she'd roamed so far off course this was a shortcut back. About halfway down the hall, an odd croaking stopped her in her tracks. Worried she'd upset a loose floorboard, Cassie went up on her tiptoes and took a careful step forward.

The wooden floor remained silent beneath her, but as she neared a doorway, the croaking came again, louder and more distinct this time — a moan, long and low. What the hell?

Received an advance copy from NetGalley. I loved this story, the characters were well developed and draw you in. The story line has it all...romance, comedy and angst. I didn't want to stop reading this book once I started.

Melonie Johnson is a new author to me and I have to say I really enjoyed this story. This was an entertaining read full of fun and with plenty of humour; there were timers that I laughed so much my face ached. Cassie Crow, has one goal in mind and that is to become known as a a serious journalist. However when she meets hunky Scott,Logan Reid she decides that she can afford to have one night of fun, after all what could be the harm? Shockingly it is Logan who wants more than a one night stand and with this in mind he pursues Cassie. The question is can Logan convince Cassie to take a chance on them? The characters were both extremely likeable and easy to relate to and the chemistry and tension was smoking hot as they navigated their relationship. All in all this was one of those little gems that I really loved. This may have been my first story from this author but it will not be the last.

Wonderful slow-burn romance! Cassie and Logan have the kind of chemistry that's hard to ignore, but their careers are steadfastly in the way. Their romance is destined to burn as hot as a firecracker, and burn out just as quickly. Their London vacation time is the stuff of fantasy romance, and it's exquisitely done. All but extinguished by the ending even they saw coming, their romance gets a post-vacation resurrection that forces both characters to get right to the heart of the matter. I loved every page of this epic romance, loved getting to know her friends and his family, and loved the two-steps-forward-one-step-back pacing of their romance. Nothing is easy in love, but this beautiful story shows that it's well worth fighting for. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Cassie and Logan are fun from the start. Their meet cute is reminiscent of an Outlander moment and will delight fans. Johnson is a new author for me, but I will definitely read more and can’t wait to dive into the next in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

I love books with strong female friendships, and Melonie Johnson delivers that in the Sometimes in Love series. These women clearly care a lot about each other, and it's empowering. Of course I'm going to love Cassie - she's a romance reader! Though Ana is probably my favorite among Cassie and her group of friends, and I'm more of a Bonnie... I want to be friends with these girls, haha. That's one of my indicators of a great book - if you find yourself wanting to hang out with the main character. I'd definitely hang out with Cassie. She's so smart and savvy, and I love her ideas for a segment of social change in her morning TV show. Logan is hilarious and adorable. I love that he has his fair share of issues he's got to work through, but they don't make him an alpha-hole (like so many leading men with issues seem to be...) His relationship with his mom is so cute, but I do wish there'd been some more story there with his sister, Janet. It seemed like there might be with the references to him calling her (or not calling her), but then that line of possibly story just sort of... disappeared. I got to the 72% mark of this book and everything was going so well... TOO WELL. Do you ever have that happen, where you get to a spot in your romance novel that feels like the HEA must be a page turn away, and then you notice you still have a whole third of the book left to go? There is a feeling of IMPENDING DOOM. And sure enough, doom descends. (I was secretly glad, because I wasn't ready for this book to end!) This is the first book in the Sometimes in Love series, and can be read as a stand alone. There is also some delicious set up for the next book in the series, Smitten by the Brit, which is about Cassie's BFF Bonnie and Logan's friend Thomas. I'm probably most looking forward to Ana's book, which I'm guessing will be book 4 in the series as the third book, Once Upon A Bad Boy, looks like it will be about Sadie.

Cassie Crow and her 4 friends are on a whirlwind 5-country vacation, and her one wish is to have a fling with a foreigner before she returns to the States. Time is running out when she accidentally runs into a gorgeous ginger-haired Scot at Edinburgh Castle. For just a second, she thinks he’s time-travelled and she shares a steamy kiss with him. Turns out he’s Logan Reid, YouTube prankster, and the whole scene has been captured on video. For Logan, the video is his chance to turn his YouTube gig into a network TV show. For Cassie, the embarrassing video could ruin her plans to graduate from pop culture reporter on ChiChicago to hosting a serious, issues-related program. Can these two find a compromise that won’t derail their plans but will allow the insane chemistry between them to blossom from a one-night-stand into a love affair? This is Melonie Johnson’s debut novel (the first of her Sometimes in Love series), and it’s a winner! The two main characters are complex and likeable. Cassie is a strong, intelligent, driven woman who has put relationships on the back burner and isn’t afraid to put Logan in his place. He’s a funny, charming Highlander (in a kilt!!!) who is driven to succeed in his accidental career and has no plans for marriage because of issues relating to his father’s premature death. Although all of the romance tropes are present, the path to happily-ever-after isn’t entirely predictable. Their friends, especially Theo and Bonnie (the next book’s couple), add color and complexity to the story. Recommend this to your romance readers, and they’ll be clamoring for the next books in the series. I received a complimentary ARC of this book from St. Martin’s Paperbacks through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

A group of girlfriends on a bucket list European vacation. An internet reality show named Shenanigans. A hot kiss in a castle. Cassie went on vacation with an empty charm bracelet and a full box of condoms. She has reached Scotland and the bracelet is no longer empty, but the condoms box is still full. Cassie gets lost in a castle and a handsome Scot tries to convince her she has traveled back in time. She is not convinced. She manages to hook up with Logan, the star of an internet reality show and make a dent in the box. Logan needs Cassie to sign a waiver so that his company can air the video of their kiss in the castle. Logan thinks this will convince a production company that the show appeals to the female demographic. Cassie is a TV reporter trying to move from fluff to serious reporting and the last thing she needs is to appear in a video getting kissed by a handsome Scot. They work out their differences, Cassie gets the job she wants. Logan moves to Chicago and gets the job he wants. Epic grand gesture in the last chapter.

Who wouldn't want to find a sexy Scot in a kilt hanging out in a castle when they are on vacation?? Cassie and her friends are on the holiday of a lifetime and when she meets Logan it's not only sparks flying, but little explosions. Getting Hot with the Scott is a fun and quirky story with some awesome characters.

Cassie Crow is a pop-culture reporter but has bigger aspirations than her job on a television talk show. She is focused on becoming a journalist and wants to be taken more seriously. For now, she is on vacation with a few friends and they are now in Scotland. When she sees a Highlander in a kilt, Cassie immediately has a bunch of ideas as to what she'd like to do with him, Logan Reid has a pretty interesting career that is based mainly on hijinks, but mostly on charm. He meets the delectable American, Cassie, and quickly discovers that one night of fun is hardly enough. When she returns to America after her trip, Logan finds a good excuse to follow her. This was a cute little story. Cassie and Logan each had dreams, and a future together seemed hardly impossible. Watching them travel down this road made for enjoyable reading. Meanwhile, Cassie's friends were a hoot and no doubt will each have a role in future stories. This debut novel by Melonie Johnson was quite an wonderful read that was remarkably well-done. I look forward to going further in this delectable series, and will soon be reading Smitten by the Brit, which will be out soon, as well as Once Upon a Bad Boy, which will be released in June. Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and to NetGalley for this ARC to be reviewed in exchange for my honest opinion.

3.5 stars This was a cute book, with themes of hurt/comfort and reinventing your life. The writing was good, too. I liked Cassie’s fierce determination and her willingness to forgive, and eventually I understood Logan’s quirkiness as well. My complaint with the book was that Ms. Johnson was trying to introduce enough characters to build a series, and it was not done smoothly. Five women go on the vacation of a lifetime, 5 years after graduating college (how are they making enough, and how could they take 6 weeks off?). I kept getting them confused because they pretty much all sounded alike, and there were so many unnecessary scenes that were there just so we’d get to know them a little. Eventually, the author gave up on two of them and sent them off shopping whenever something was happening. This all combined to make the first 2/3 of the book move very slowly. Once Cassie got back home, things picked up and got pretty interesting. The ending was wonderful. This was a good commuting book, as I could put it down and take it back up again later without feeling too worried about the characters in the meantime. I’m going on to read Bonnie’s story, because I really want to know how she and Theo will surmount their obstacles. I received an advance copy from NetGalley in return for my honest review.

Getting Hot with the Scot is the first book in Melonie Johnson's Sometimes in Love series and delights with steamy romance and charming, well-written characters that grab you and don't let go. Cassie Crow meets Logan Reid while on a European vacation with her girlfriends. She's looking for a hot fling and definitely finds just what she wants in Logan, but they must decide if a fling will be enough. "Logan Reid was certainly delicious. But tempted as she was to have a second helping, Cassie knew he was an indulgence best not repeated." Cassie is tempted into many helpings! The fling with Logan blossoms into a relationship, but the road to HEA is not without potholes, as what happened in Scotland doesn't stay in Scotland! I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the series, as Johnson introduced wonderful secondary characters, Bonnie and Theo, who are set up for their own story. I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Excellent start to a fun new series! (Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an e-arc!) Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson was such a fun read! Who among us hasn't imagined a hot little vacation fling? The only problem for Cassie: She's been on a Eurotrip with four girl friends, and the fling just hasn't materialized. Never mind, there are castles to be explored and whisky to be sipped - and oh, hey, a sexy Scot in a kilt. Yup. This book goes all the way there. And then it dials it back to reality really quickly (as all vacations must come to an end). I liked the way Johnson structured the plot, as well as the cast of characters she developed - especially Logan's family, and that Cassie had more than one friend! (The woman with just one close friend has always struck me as a strange feature of so many romcoms.) These characters felt like people, not like two-dimensional romantic leads. There are certainly some steamy bits, but I'd say this one is too plot-forward for me to label it a steamy romance (though do expect sex scenes). And the language - oh, the language. Getting Hot with the Scot took me about an extra half hour to read because I kept highlighting and looking up Scottish slang terms - love! This is the first in a series, and I just know I'll be picking up the rest, which (so far) follow the women featured in this book. I need to know what happens to my favorites!

Getting Hot with the Scot is a debut romantic comedy that you don't want to miss. Cassie is on a dream vacation with her best friends, and has one thing left to do on her "to do list", and Logan is the perfect match at least she thought so. Little does Cassie know that Logan is setting this meeting up as a prank for the filming of his show. Now can Logan make up to Cassie once she returns to the states. This was such a fun book to read, so many laugh out loud moments. Great sexual chemistry between them. Loved the dialogue and banter between them. I'm looking forward to reading much more from this author.

Hot indeed! There's nothing like a hunky Scotsman with the goods to back up his swagger. And boy does Logan have the and funny. What a wonderful hero he is. And the sizzling chemistry between him and Cassie is insane. I was captivated from the couple's amusing and steamy first encounter to the end of their journey. What a pair of fantastic characters created by this talented author. I loved the wonderful cast of characters in the five long-time girlfriends and can't wait for their stories. The author gave each one of the girls such entertaining individual characteristics that are unique to each. The story moves at an easy pace with wonderful humor, a sweet and sexy romance and some drama. You can't get around drama with five American girls on a five country vacation. And then there's Logan's quest to advance his career that involves Cassie which she's wants no part of and has the possibility of exploding their budding relationship. The story has a very organic feel to it that puts you right into each situation as it unfolds and had you either laughing at the antics of swooning over the romance. For a debut Ms. Johnson has a stunner. Truly fabulous! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

Cassie and her girlfriends are on a trip to Scotland. They are stressing because they have not seen a hot Scot in a kilt yet. I mean, it is one of their ultimate goals. Cassie accidentally strays off course on a castle tour and ends up being kissed by a real live Scotsman! Then she finds out it is all a prank. But, she just can’t keep her hands off this man! Cassie and Logan have the HOTS for each other. But, Cassie has other ideas. She is career focused and Logan is not up to her caliber. He is a little too laid back. But, there is just something about him that draws Cassie to him. Logan is determined not to let her get away. He even takes a gig closer to her in the states. Things really heat up then! Well, well, well, I have found a new romance author! I literally laughed out loud at some of the great one liners in this book and the attraction between Cassie and Logan is pure enchantment. With this crew in this tale, there is no telling what will happen in the next installment. Make sure you visit my instagram for a giveaway for this wonderful book. @reecaspiecesbooks. Cassie and her four friends have finally taken their trip to Europe, that they planned back in their freshman year of college. They are on their last leg of the journey presently in Scotland, moving on to London, England.  Cassie has wanted to have one fling with a man on this trip, but as their travels wind down, her box of condoms is still full. While visiting Edinburgh Castle, she wanders into an off-limits room, and comes face-to-face with the man of her dreams, a Highlander with red, unruly hair wearing a kilt. Little does she know that when she throws her inhibitions out the window, that her life will change forever. Will this just a vacation fling or something much more, that she had not planned for?I wish I had four friends like Cassie does. They are so much fun. They work hard to try to get Cassie and Logan together, for more than just a fling. Cassie Crow is a hostess on a morning show in Chicago, but she has big plans. She wants to be involved in more serious reporting and has her life somewhat planned out, she does not have room or time to become a laughing-stock caused by Logan's web-show "Shenanigans". Logan Reid and his sister are internet sensations with their show "Shenanigans". Logan plays practical jokes on all sorts of people, but will the joke that Cassie stumbled into be worth the harm to her and a possible relationship? I loved Logan's character. He was a hurt little boy, hiding in a man's body. I enjoyed seeing him grow and change throughout the story. This was a sweet story. Logan was indeed a sexy Scot and Cassie a shy, driven woman who sizzled when they were together. I enjoyed watching things develop between them, and was rooting for a happy ending. There were a few slow parts in the story, particularly once they were back in Chicago, but otherwise, the story was well-paced and I read through it pretty quickly. I am looking forward to the next story with Bonnie (Cassie's best friend) and Theo (Logan's best friend). I had a feeling reading this one that something will develop between them once Bonnie dumps Gabe, her fiance that seems to be quite happy with the status quo. All in all, this was a fun, sexy book and I recommend it to romance lovers who enjoy a happily ever after with a lot of sizzle. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon my request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

ARC for honest review with no compensation received from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is book 1 in the Sometimes in Love series and a new to me author. Cassie and her friends come to Europe on vacation and while in Scotland and touring a castle, Cassie gets turned around after going to the restroom and finds herself in another part of the castle that is off limits...but she ends up meeting a very Hot Scot, Logan Reid who is filming his escapades for his web site. What happens next is funny, charming, entertaining, hot fling, and sparks! Will these two find a HEA or will it just be a vacation fling??

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson Sometimes in Love #1 Cassie Crow and her friends have been planning their trip to Europe for years and finally, about five years after they graduate from college, they have gone on their dream trip together. This book begins in Scotland and is the first in a series of books that will no doubt showcase each of Cassie’s friends and how they find the person who will become t heir partner in life. But, this is Cassie and Logan’s story. Cassie is in a Castle and happens upon a hunky kilted Scot inside a library wall. Is he a time traveler or??? Well...when Cassie realizes that the tall gorgeous redhead with the brogue is Logan Reid, prankster extraordinaire, she put the kibosh on his hopes of putting the impromptu kiss they shared onto his website. Not wanting to give up on getting her to sign the release form he puts the moves on to see if he can change her mind. Little does he know that HER goal is to have a torrid European fling while on her dream vacation. And thus begins their journey toward a HES...maybe. Beginning in Scotland they move on to England, seems to end, picks up again in Chicago and continues on from there. How they manage to find their HEA involves some maneuvering, includes Cassie’s friends and sets the reader up for book two that will be the story of one of Logan’s friends getting together with one of Cassie’s friends – these two meet on the European vacation, too. This book had a New Adult feel to it so my guess is it will be a favorite with those who read this genre. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 3-4 Stars

Steamy, sexy vacation fling? Yes, please! Getting Hot with the Scot was a fun read that left me wanting to hop on a plane and find me my own kilted vacation souvenir! Logan was all sorts of fun but it’s so obvious that he uses his humor as a bit of a shield to keep things light and not let people in. He’s got some heavy baggage that he’s holding onto and at points I wasn’t sure if Cassie would be able to work her way fully into his heart. Cassie was so much more than the “vacation fling” girl we were introduced to in the beginning of the book. She’s got a career that poised to take off and she’s got a heart of gold. These two had so many things to work through – from the opening prank to commitment issues - and I just loved watching these to find themselves and then each other as they finally realized what their relationship was. My favorite part of this book was Cassie’s friends that she traveled with. They were so much fun and had me wishing I could join the group and have some adventures with them. They always had each other’s backs and I loved how they encouraged Cassie when she needed a push to let herself go and have some fun. Their antics when it came to the opposite sex had me laughing out loud, and Sadie and Ana were such a hoot! And Logan’s friend Theo was such a great wingman – and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for him and Cassie’s best friend Bonnie in the next book. With a well-developed plot and some really great characters that worked together to tell Logan and Cassie’s story, I am very impressed with this author’s debut! There were a couple of spots that did slow down just a bit for me since there was a bit of world-building that needed to happen to set up the next books in the series, but overall this was a well-written book that was light and fun but also had moments that had me feeling some serious emotions right along with the characters. This is definitely one to add to your TBR shelf!

Cassie goes on the vacation of a lifetime with her best girlfriends. She has a surreal moment in a castle only to find it was a set-up from a TV show. Tempted by the Scot, Logan, she has a hot night with him, but she doesn't sign the release for the footage. There's a definite spark, and he follows her to London. They have a wonderful time alone and with friends until she finds the waiver. Mad, she signs it an leaves for the USA. Logan's in the US for a new opportunity and happens to be in the same town as Cassie. He looks her up, they make peace and start a new relationship, even spending the holidays together. She has a new job, too, and things are going well....till they don't. It will take a grand gesture to get these two together for the HEA. Loved this story! **Received a review copy on netgalley

I received a (ARC) copy of this book through netgalley and it delivered a hot sexy romance to be sure. I loved the five girlfriends vacation plan as a theme throughout this book. As it provides an interesting background to this story. Cassie Crow's one wish in this vacation is to have one, hot night romance. as a remembrance, before she devotes all her time, in becoming a serious journalist. She thinks it will never be as they are on one of the last legs of their trip, Scotland. They are visiting a castle, where she gets lost and finds a passage way, where she meets a hot looking, Scottish highlander with a perfect scottish brogue (the fantasy man of her dreams). The attraction is immediate on bothsides, and they share a kiss. A kiss that was way more potent than she’d expected—. Only it turns out, the hot sexy kilted highlander is Logan Reid, a internet celebrity, pulling a prank for his internet podcast, in hopes of snagging an invitation to do a Tv series. But Cassie refuses to sign a release form. So Logan (in hopes of getting her to sign), extends an invitation for a drink, but the attraction between the two, ends them some place else. And the story begins.
