When a perfect new love is shattered, two hearts will do anything to pick up the pieces. In this sizzling novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Stone Walls, irresistible heat leads to sensual thrills—and a secret that changes everything.

A real hero can protect and serve, but a true hero knows how to love.

Two years ago, Nick Farley was undercover as a bartender in Chicago. The tough-as-steel FBI agent was working all the angles to build a case against a local crime syndicate, but even his intense focus was no match for the sight of Angela Cavello’s plump pink lips pulling on her drink. All Nick got was one night—the longest, hottest, sweetest night of his life. It could have been the beginning of something real. Instead, she walked away—and Nick watched her go.

Angela has made some mistakes in her life, but Nick was never one of them. Nor was the baby boy he doesn’t know about. But Angela has been running from a stalker for so long that she’s forgotten how to feel safe. So when Nick suddenly reappears in her life, Angela faces a moment of truth. She wants to trust him and reveal her secrets—her life and the life of their son may depend on it—but first she needs to know that Nick can handle her past, and promise the one thing she most craves: a future together.

Chapter 1

December 2013

For a few very long minutes, silence echoed off the walls. The only noise that could be heard was the sound of my buddy’s measured breaths. Nosey people clustered around in a semicircle, waiting for me to begin. Frigid temps outside, falling snow, and the start of the Christmas holiday may have had something to do with the crowd.

Normally, this dump pulled in quite a mix. Local young professionals who were fresh into the boring workforce, college students on the threshold of said boring workforce, and locals desperate for relief from their everyday lives were all looking for the answer to their dreams in the bottom of a shot glass. The Dump provided an oasis in the desert of their disappointing realities. That December night, I provided their entertainment.

Their glassy eyes followed my moves as I concentrated on my target. The pressure did little to rattle my nerves. Situations like this fed my fierce determination to succeed. Failing wasn’t an option . . . ever. I wouldn’t allow failure in any aspect of my life. A perfectionist to the core, I considered anything less intolerable. Even when challenged to a stupid game of darts at a bar called The Dump in the heart of Chicago.

Six months earlier, under false pretenses, I had applied for a bartending job at The Dump. Being undercover afforded me all the information I needed to nail that joint. I wasn’t there to mix drinks, but no one had a clue what my real purpose was.

Mugs, the owner—who earned his nickname based on the perpetual scowl on his face—was a crusty old man who never laughed. In fact, if you came to The Dump and managed to get Mugs to crack a smile, you drank for free. What started as a long-standing joke turned his dump into a hot spot, making him a legend in Chicago. In days, that scowl he permanently displayed would be taking on a new meaning. It’d be a shame to end his legacy, but such was life. I hope he fared well in prison.

Many came to witness his ire in person. The more he insulted, the more people tried to get their free drinks. A shrewd businessman to his repugnant core, every decision was made with one thing in mind—would it profit him in some way?

The turnover in bartenders was a result of his sparkling personality. Most couldn’t hack it, especially females. The only female left on his staff was his wife, Marcy. She deserved a medal, and not only because she survived Mugs . . . she married him. Mentally I’d cringe, my balls contracting upward, every time I thought of those two together.
At first Mugs wasn’t bowled over by my personality.

“Take a hike, kid,” he said after sampling my margarita. “Too strong. You’ll bankrupt me in tequila usage.” I asked for an hour, claiming I could make a killing selling drinks. He narrowed his beady eyes on me and countered, “You got thirty minutes.”

Undeterred, I mixed him up a martini, turned up the charisma with the female customers, flirted with his wife, Marcy, and delivered the promised killing in sales. Turned out Marcy had a sweet spot for me, and convinced her husband how much business my handsome looks could bring in.

“Okay, kid. You’re in.”

That concluded my job interview at The Dump.

Mugs later admitted that having my face behind the bar was great for business . . . especially of the female variety. As long as I kept the cash flowing to his register, I had a job. What Mugs failed to realize was that he played right into my charms.

Yes, I was a charmer, and a real good one at that. Men and women alike were drawn to me. Once they stepped foot into The Dump and met me, they were very forthcoming in sharing their problems. Females quickly labeled me as the hot therapist behind the bar. The more they confessed, the more they drank, and the bigger they tipped. My fellow bartenders profited since we all shared our tips at the end of the night. Mugs considered it a win-win for all.

Having minored in psychology, reading people was a passion for me. The human brain fascinated me. What made people tick? What made people blatantly screw up? Getting into someone’s mind without them knowing was empowering.

Besides my performance as a therapist bartender, my dart-throwing skills also made Mugs extra cash. I was dubbed “The Dart-man from The Dump.” Assholes came from far and wide to try and take my title, but I was unbeatable. Most would consider the whole thing ridiculous. I couldn’t argue that, but a man had to do whatever it took to get through. Throwing darts started out as recreation, a way for me to clear my muddled mind and have some fun when everything else in my life was stressful and intense. That bull’s-eye metaphorically became my goal in life, and I validated it by hitting that tiny red target.

Everyone around me stood staring, waiting for me to miss. With a flick of my wrist, I could send that dart sailing through the air until it hit dead center on the board, majestically protruding from that tiny red circle.

So often cop romances gloss over the hard choices and hurt feelings in favor of a ‘lust conquers all’ type story. In beautiful contrast this story faced them all head-on and used them to drive a touchingly realistic romance. Marvelously crafted ROMANCE in the truest sense.

Never cared for cop stories... BUY, can't get enough of the True Heroes Series... Nick fell hopelessly in love with Angela while on a "job" in Chicago... After I week together he headed to NYC and a new assignment thinking she would follow... Fast forward 2 years and she shows up... Lots of excellent story, super writing and all kinds of surprises in this one... Again, I must be slipping because a lot happened that I didn't see coming... But a great story with lots of fun, sex and suspense.. Great read! On to the next in the series...

I loved the story, only had one problem with it. Nick couldn't see past his anger with Angela, all she wanted to do was protect the ones she loved. And a couple of times I found myself putting down my Nook because I was so frustrated with Nick. He just couldn't see past his own pain and hurt. But in the end he saw the truth in front of him. And HEA finally.

This is such a great story of sacrifice, selflessness, loyalty and of course, love. Nick and Angela had an immediate intense connection. Angela was a one of a kind woman, a little naive but such a beautiful person on the inside. I loved their first meeting and the way they just sparked. The interactions between Angela, Nick, Eve and Jase were hysterical. Nick and Angela went through a tough journey to be together, but it was worth it in the end. They solidified their bond and became stronger and more aware of what is most important to them. I loved the ending and the little twist that occurred. This was an intense story from start to finish that I had to keep reading. Have a tissue ready for certain parts. I am looking forward to Angela's brother's story next. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

Great story, full of suspense and emotion. The plot takes the you on a roller coaster ride as Nick and Angela come together and are pulled apart by events they can't control. I hadn't read the first book in this True Heroes series and it did not effect my enjoyment of this story. I will, however, go back and read it now. ARC provided for an honest review,

I really disliked the constant changing back and forth between present day and the past in this book, but I enjoyed the story. The characters were fun, the plot was thick with hot sex and mystery. During an undercover op with the FBI two years ago, Nick Farley was posing as a bartender to bring down a local mob infiltration. On one of his last nights there, he met gorgeous Angela Cavallo. She was sweet and sexy and pushed all of his buttons in a way no one ever had before. They had one sexy, hot night together before parting ways. Angela has been hiding for so long now, but she needs to see Nick and tell him about the son that came from their night together. Will Nick be able to forgive her deceit? And will he be able to help her stay safe from the life she's been running from?

Review: What a great story! This story was full of first love, lost love and love found again. Then there is drama, a baby, action and suspense. This is a new to me Author and wrote a very engaging and interesting story. The story is told from a dual point of view, though most of it is told from Nick's perspective. I liked that Nick's is the main POV, I always like seeing a romance from the guys side. I felt so bad for Nick, he is such a stand-up guy and then Angela just leaves him with no explanation. Three years later Angela is back and she has kept their son a secret. I totally understand Angela's reasoning and that she was scared, but my heart ached for Nick and what he missed. Overall, the emotions of the story and the characters are what had me hooked from the very beginning. The story also had some mystery surrounding the mafia, Angela's ex and the FBI that came to action filled ending. This is the second book in the series, but can totally be a stand alone. 4Stars *Received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

Heartwarming and Emotional 4.5 stars Glass Ceilings is not what I expected, but so much more as I was carried on a journey of highs and lows, quite a rollercoaster ride of emotions while reading this book. It’s Angela Cavello and Nick Farley’s story as they meet for the first time in a bar in Chicago. While Nick is working as bartender at The Dump, he’s actually an undercover FBI agent investigating trafficking of drugs at the bar by the mafia family. The attraction between Angela and Nick is an undeniable connection, and their time together at the beginning of the story is light and sexy. Then the promised and newly formed relationship takes a turn of events I didn’t see coming. Ms. Madden certainly took the plot, smathered it with lots of uncertainty, angst, and twisted it up, I thought for sure Nick was lost to Angela. My insides tore for Nick, the crushing heartache he felt over Angela’s possible betrayal. I admired Angela for her strength of character and never losing sight of her love and protection of Nick. I loved how the author wove the plot so tight, twisting our characters and our emotions to a knot, but revealing at last, the underlying strength of love Angela and Nick had for each other. I couldn’t help doing a fist pump, when Nick finally realized by “forgiving Angela he stopped the past from stealing the gift of the present.” One of the defining moments in the story. *sigh* And the secondary characters, Jase and Eve were every bit lovable and supporting. Glass Ceilings is an inspiring read of emotional strength, tension, heartache, and forgiveness with a bit of suspense. It’s a story of second chance at love with all the elements of romance you expect, strong protective hero, a strong-willed heroine, and all the emotional feelings rolled up in a heartwarming, and satisfying ending. The story grabbed me and didn’t let go until the end. I hope we find David’s story next. He’s one complex dude. Yes? Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The instant attraction between Angela and Nick grabbed me just as instantly. The back and forth of their feelings and their separation pulled at my heart. I wanted everything to work out. As things are revealed, even the little surprise, I rooted for their HEA. I recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. 'Glass Ceilings' by A.M. Madden is book two in the series " True Heroes". This was a surprisingly good book. I wasn't really taken with the cover of the book but did like the story line. Once you start reading the book though you quickly come to like the book and won't want to put it down! Nick Farley is a FBI Agent that goes undercover sometimes. Nick was pretty much a workaholic, tough FBI agent. Finishing up one of his undercover assignments he meets Angela Cavallo. They have a one night stand that Angela end up leaving him. Angela is brought in for questioning on a new case Nick is working on. Now they meet again and we get to see if they will move forward with what they both have always wanted after that first encounter. Really Great Read!! It has everything you could want in a romance. Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley for a copy of this amazing book! A. M. Madden is one of my "go to" authors, she's such a great writer! This is book 2 in the True Heroes series, and this one was just as awesome as book 1 was! I always cannot wait to read a book when the author adds this comment to their blurb "Glass Ceilings is meant for mature audiences 18+ due to sexual content and adult situations." I know it's going to be a good one! Nick was undercover as a bartender in Chicago one night (he's FBI) and he met Angela. Together they had one hot night of sex! They both go their separate ways. However, she has a child by him and he has no idea! YUMMY!!! Their paths cross again later on and she still has feelings for him. But, can she have a relationship with him? What will he think when he learns of her past? And a child, that's his? This was the best story!! Loved the characters and the whole story!! It was sexy and on the edge of your seat, reading! I look forward to reading the next book A.M. Madden writes!!

While Nick an FBI agent is working undercover as a bartender in Chicago, he falls for Angela they only get a short time together before Nick goes back to New York they stay in touch until Angela is threatened by a former ex and decides to let Nick go to keep both of them safe. Now it’s two years later and old secrets are revealed. This was an enjoyable story, I liked the characters although I did find it hard to connect. The story is really good and the chemistry between Nick and Angela is great. I liked it.

GLASS CEILINGS is the second installment in A.M. Madden’s contemporary, adult TRUE HEROES romantic suspense series. This is FBI agent Nick Farley, and dress shop assistant Angela Cavallo’s story line. GLASS CEILINGS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Some of the characters from book one Stone Walls play secondary or supporting roles. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Told from dual first person perspectives (Nick and Angela) GLASS CEILINGS follows the building but forbidden relationship between undercover FBI agent Nick Farley, and Angelo Cavallo. On assignment in Chicago Nick will find himself attracted to a woman who would be both his curse and his future. One week together finds our couple promising the future but when Angela is unable to return to New York with Nick, without placing him and herself in harm’s way, she pushes Nick away declaring he meant nothing to her or her future. Fast forward two years later and Angela is the prime suspect in a murder of a mob boss’s son. GLASS CEILINGS finds Angela on the run from her former boyfriend; a man too controlling and too abusive, and in this our heroine tries to stay one step ahead but moving to New York with the man that she loves places Nick in the line of fire, so Angela is determined to protect the people that she loves even if it meant raising her child-Nick’s son-alone. Two years would pass before the father would be introduced to the child he never knew. The relationship between Nick and Angela is one of instant attraction; insta-lust/love and one that will be destroyed by secrets and lies. Nick has a difficult time finding forgiveness towards the woman who broke his heart but his need to get to know the son he never knew places Nick and Angela together for the future; Angela is a woman caught in the cross fire of a crime syndicate war and family becomes the important factor. The $ex scenes are seductive and provocative. We are introduced to Jace and Eve. Eve is Angela’s best friend, and Jace becomes Nick’s buddy while our hero works undercover at a local Chicago bar. Angela’s brother David keeps to himself but his secrets run deeper than anyone could ever imagine. GLASS CEILINGS is a suspense filled, intriguing and captivating. A.M. Madden pulls the reader onto the pages of a romantic tale between two people whose lives were destroyed by power, secrets and lies. The premise is engaging and spirited; the characters are passionate and real; the romance is a struggle to forgive and forget.

Not only love at first sight but chemistry to blow you away. Nick is undercover at The Dump in Chicago and meets Angela and after a few days of flirting they finally kiss on New Years and that kiss is enough for Nick to decide he has enough to close his case and hunt Angela down and spend the night/day getting close and closer to her. Plans are made for her to follow him to New York but plans are made to be changed... This is my first book by this author but definitely NOT the last. Even though I did not read the first book in this series that did not matter since this book was a stand alone with no cliffhanger. The characters were well written and extremely personable. There was much heat and angst and a whodoneit to figure out. I definitely recommend this and will be looking for more to read by this author in the future. **Received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

A.M. Madden delivers another hot cop with Nick Farley in Glass Ceilings. This Stone Walls companion novel, starts with a fun and sexy fling over New Years between Nick and Angela. Their undeniable connection developed quickly into a combustible chemistry that set their world on fire and burned it down. There was something special about these two that endeared them to me instantly. A.M. Madden has written a powerful story of love, loss, and longing that will make you feel a hurricane of emotions. I felt the highs and lows of their story, mesmerized by the unraveling depth of the characters and the thoughtfully executed storyline. I laughed, cringed, and wanted to throw things while reading Glass Ceilings, unable to put it down until I’d reached the end. Both of our main characters exhibited significant growth over the course of this book. Angela’s emotions were close to the surface, her fear and mistrust palpable and generating a tension that carried throughout her journey. Even when she frustrated me, A.M. Madden made Angela’s plight one you could sympathize with and even understand, giving this character a surprising relatability. Seeing this character develop and find her strength was definitely satisfying. Nick intrigued me from the beginning. There was something about him that was guarded, sparking my curiosity while his developing relationship with Angela thoroughly hooked me. I was pleasantly surprised by the emotional vulnerability and total honesty Nick exhibited. His pain and feelings of loss and betrayal obvious in a way that made my heart ache for him. This quality gave him a sense of balance, complimenting his tough, protective persona and ensuring that Nick felt absolutely genuine. A.M. Madden’s growth as an author continues to amaze me, her writing expertly capturing the thrill and angst of this couple’s journey. The well paced plot and carefully developed characters further evidence of A.M.’s devotion to this story. I adored the way A.M. Madden structured this storyline. The beginning portion felt light, fun, and youthfully exuberant. Even as A.M. Madden wrenched my heart open repeatedly, that underlying bliss kept me enchanted by Angela and Nick’s journey. Each twist and turn of the plot had me clenching my fists and clinging to hope that they would somehow hold onto that light which made them so special. Glass Ceilings was the perfect mix of romance and action. I swooned and grinned and fell in love with Angela and Nick while constantly on the edge of my seat, waiting for Angela’s past to catch up with them. Glass Ceilings is fun, sexy, and full of suspense; thrilling and captivating me from start to finish.

A story with passion is the best way I can describe Nick and Angela's story. This is the first book I've read by Ms Madden and I have to say...I want more! I found the premise of switching between the past and present...after the first two years...very engaging, providing the reader the characters' backstory in a creative format. The author's characters are well developed, multidimensional, with tons of personality and heart. Nick is the ultimate alpha hero without being overbearing. He reeks masculinity with charm...driven by his career as a FBI agent...driven by his heart after meeting and falling in love with Angela. And then there is his son Nicholas...there is nothing sexier than a father holding his child. The secondary characters of Eve and Jase are absolutely hilarious...and could have their own story! The author also did a fine job of providing some of the backstory of the first book in the series, with those characters bleeding very nicely into this one. I definitely look forward to continuing with the series as it unfolds...perhaps David's story is next? This book was provided by Netgalley for my honest review.

This book has characters from Ben Stones book. You have Nick Farley who is undercover cop. He didn't know that when he was working that he would meet someone that wouldn't give into his charm. Angela was out with her cousin Even when they stopped in while Nick was working at the bar. Angela wasn't looking for a relationship but her cousin wanted her to have a fun night. Little did she know a fun night would turn into more. That is when a few years later nick is working a new job and who gets brought in for question the one that stole his heart Angela. This is where the story begins and where all the twist and turns in the story begin. There is emotion and I couldn't have predicted some of the stuff like other books. Well written!

I love Nick! Glass Ceilings is book 2 in the True Heroes series but you don’t need to have read the first book to enjoy this one. While Nick was introduced in Stone Walls, Glass Ceilings stands alone with no problem. This story is hot in places but it is also very touching and tender in others. Nick and Angela meet while he is working undercover. Angela’s cousin, Eve and Nick’s friend Jase, try to get her to use Nick to knock an item off of her bucket list: have a one-night stand. Nick is more than willing knowing that one night is all it can be since he will be leaving Chicago soon. After an explosive New Year’s Eve kiss Angela goes home alone leaving Nick behind. He can’t get Angela out of his mind so he goes to her place even though it’s 4 a.m. Angela doesn’t want to start anything with him because she, too, is leaving Chicago soon. When they find out they are both heading to New York they decide to explore their relationship a bit more. The story is told in first person POV and divided into 3 parts. In the first part most chapters are told by Nick; later on they alternate a bit more between Nick and Angela. I love a great second chance love story and this one has just the right amount of angst for me. Part 1 is the set-up of their relationship. Part 2 jumps ahead 2 years when they meet again and Part 3 begins the second chance. There is also a nice secondary story going on between Eve and Jase. Glass Ceilings kept me engrossed and awake during a long red-eye flight from LA the east coast. While I paid dearly for not getting any sleep during the flight I wasn’t one bit sorry! ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my review. Review will be posted to Xtreme-Delusions dot com on or soon after release date.

On a cold Chicago night, in a bar called The Dump, Nick Farley met Angela Cavello for the first time. After that first glimpse, Nick could not forget her. After a very expensive, very explosive first kiss, Nick could not forget her. And after one very passionate night together, Nick knew he would not, could not forget her. A one night stand is just that, one night and although they had to go their separate ways, they both hoped to meet up again soon. Plans change, things happen, circumstances keep them apart for almost two years, and when they finally meet again, it is not a reunion that either of them expected. In this short span of time a lot has happened, to both Nick and Angela. The chemistry still crackles between them, the ability to speak without talking is still there, but things have changed, they have changed. Can Nick and Angela find their way back to one another, when it seems everything and everybody is trying to keep them apart, maybe permanently! This is a must read, A.M. Madden has a way of making you feel that you are in the same room with her characters. At times I felt so sorry for Nick, his hurt and frustration, a tangible thing. Be forewarned, there will be hot passionate sex, there will be surprises, there will be suspense and shock. I laughed, I cried and most importantly I fell in love with Nick and Angela.
