Overview

My story is about the heart-felt wish to return to an ancient, simpler time. The person who talks about the past is 10-year-old Junebug's great-grandmother ("Grandmother"). He loves listening to tales about the old days from someone who knew people who actually lived them (Grandmother is over 100-years-old). He watches her strength dwindle with each day, without giving much thought to what it means. However, she has an amazing mystery to show him when he visits her for one of their frequent weekends together. Junebug is used to the symbolism and mysticism that are woven into the threads of Grandmother's life. However, for what turns out to be their last weekend together, he finds out that some dreams can come true.

About the Author

I’m Ethelle Gladden, and I live in Ojai, California. I’m a family matriarch of sorts, with my family consisting of a niece, two nephews and four cats—everybody else is strewn along the east coast. I drove to California in 1988 and found my way to Ojai in 1993. My career in writing children’s picture books was launched in 2010. It’s what I enjoy and have yet to outgrow (if 56 years hasn’t done it, nothing will)!
