Grayson Jones and Prep For State

Grayson Jones and the Prep For State

This is Book 2 in the great debate series

Grayson Jones accidentally joined the debate team because he thought they said "bake" and was excited for cookies. Instead, he found himself sweating through his shirt with a stack of notecards, clueless about debating. Despite the chaos, he made some quirky friends: Jasmine, the human encyclopedia; Theo, the class clown; Maya, the fearless leader; and Percival, the British exchange student with a talent for arguing and throwing punches.

Their first debate was a disaster, but a plot twist revealed the winning team had cheated, making Grayson's team the district champions. Now, they're headed to the state competition with a new topic, new stakes, and the same weird team.

As they prepare, Grayson gets way too excited about old computers and builds a "fully accurate" 1960s computer simulation using cardboard, duct tape, and a microwave. The team also plans a 1960s movie marathon to raise funds, but they have to convince the intimidating librarian, Pat, to let them use the library.

Throughout their journey, the team faces various challenges, including a fistfight between Grayson and Percival, and the pressure of preparing for the state competition. Despite the chaos, they learn valuable lessons about teamwork, history, and the importance of understanding the past.

In the end, Grayson finds a lucky 1962 quarter, giving him hope for the future. Just as the team is about to leave for the state competition, Grayson receives a mysterious letter with a cryptic message: "The past holds secrets that could change everything. Beware."
