About the Author

My life has been a spiritual journey through the shadowy emotions of grief, loss, and love. I was touched and inspired by watching hundreds take their last breath, including my parents through Hospice care. I experienced grief from a miscarriage, the loss of a home due to a recession, watching my sister give birth to her stillborn daughter and a car accident that took the life of my niece and brother n law. In August of 2003, I experienced a near-death experience when we were traveling home from a family vacation, a tire blew out and our SUV rolled several times, I crossed over with my husband and daughter who told me, "You can't stay here, it's not your time you have more to do." Part of my spiritual journey was examining the clusters and layers of my own grief so that I could move through loss and surrender to a life of unconditional love and support.

Read an Excerpt

In some way I have always felt like I was surrounded by death. Perhaps it began for me with my mother losing her little brother to malnutrition in the Great Depression or when she was widowed at the young age of thirty-two. Possibly it began as an unborn child when my mother had thoughts of suicide. I remember when I was a little girl my parents taking in my great Aunt Ruby and my grandmother to care for them in their last days, they both died in our home, and I recall going to a mortuary as a child and playing with toys as my mother set my great Aunt Ruby’s hair.
